Gearsets that are impossible to get anymore

Ive now encountered 3 seperate sets on various alts of gear that look extremely good but come to find out you cant get them anymore. I wont go into details of which ones but this has got to be one of the most frustrating parts of the game, especially when it seems like less and less people are playing and the items still remain locked… please reconsider unlocking “locked” gear sets blizzard thanks

No, as much as i also want some of those, they are relic ‘trophies’ to those who did the content when it was current.

I’m still holding out for a green recolor of the MoP cmode sets.
Death Knights always get blue crap.
Give Unholy some coloration love.
Though unless Challenge Modes get an outright reboot, I doubt I’ll ever see it.

I really dont get this arguement that people need a trophy for doing something “during a certain time” if someone didnt play the game and wants to achiev the same thing to get the reward they shouldn’t be discouraged because “oh you needed to do this 5 years ago sorry” it prevents new players from getting into the game as well

Haves want the have-nots to have not.
It’s not an uncommon problem.
There’s also merit in completing challenging content and receiving a unique reward for it. It creates a want and demand, as well as a drive to obtain it.

Because the idea of a trophy is it’s a reward. I use this analogy all the time.

If you go to a bowling alley, and compete, and you don’t win - someone else gets the trophy. You do not get it because you didn’t meet the requirements.

Do you think going to a bowling alley 2 years later and saying: “Hey, remember that trophy I didn’t get? Can I buy it for 12 bucks?” is a good idea? Would it work? They’d look at you like you’re insane.

The mog I wear is an elite mog that I competed for. It is no longer in the game. The reason I wear it is because I fought for it, and won, by securing my place high enough on the ladder. Same deal with my tabard. And my enchant. Because I have these trophies means that someone else did not get theirs because I beat them and took their spot for it.

If you want time sensitive goodies, or you are afraid a set will no longer become available, then saddle up and go perform for it when it’s current.

why not?
is it a secret?

there may be alternate appearances which aren’t part of the “set”.

There are so few removed items compared to what still exists, especially if you are talking sets, that it isn’t even really worth talking about. The only sets that are actually removed are a few vanilla dungeon sets, PvP elite sets (which are never coming back, sorry) or 1 CM set per class (also never coming back).

There are like 60+ other sets for each class (aside from DH), more counting recolors, so pick one of those.

Oh no, 3 whole sets…out of dozens, if not hundreds. What ever will you do?

So a new player looks at WoW, thinks, “This seems interesting,” then somehow stumbles on an obscure, 6 year old set of gear, and says to themselves, “If I can’t have that set, I’m not going to play this game.”

That’s actually ridiculous. I’m not buying it.

they said many times those sets would be LIMITED TIME ONLY

we dont even need to make an argument to keep them that way, it is what it is

In what world does not being able to get a 5 year old xmog prevent new players from ‘getting into the game?’

Should gladiator xmog sets be available for everyone too? What if I want to wear current mythic xmog but don’t want to mythic raid?

Man ever since I saw the original naxx armour for warriors I thought it’d be the best dk mog out there and ill never get it :<

Just throw gold at the BMAH when the pieces are up.

Of course you don’t. When someone’s in a “gimme it, I want it” frame of mind, arguments telling them why they can’t get the thing often don’t compute.

new players dont care about what gear looks good until they get bored of the game. they care about the gameplay, the group activities etc

You can get it off the black market auction house. It’d be expensive and would take a lot of time to obtain the full set, but it is possible.

O I know, problem is I’d probably have to break the bank to buy each piece, I’ve only got about 30k on each of my 120s and the pieces cost more than that per item haha. If I could just get my hands on the shoulders and helmet id be happy

That logic holds up fine when they are based on an active competition. I always find it a bit fuzzier when it’s based upon personal, individual accomplishment. The trouble is the game changes so frequently it’s hard to maintain the same level of whatever is necessary to accomplish the thing, which is more my frustration than anything else.

By your logic, all raid mogs should be time sensitive. Heck, all mogs should be time sensitive. I shouldn’t be able to go into any past raid and get anything when I can one shot the bosses now vs. having to actually do the raid at the time.

No, all elite mogs should (and are) time sensitive because of that analogy. I competed for mine. Because I achieved mine, someone else did not get theirs. That’s how it works. In the same breath, I’d be totally fine with raid mythic mogs being time sensitive. I might actually mythic raid if they were.
