Gearing Up Question

For the first time in this game, I’ve decided to try getting geared up and getting whatever the BiS gear for me would be. I have a few questions.

I am referring to the BiS list as they have it for Brewmaster on Icy-Veins. I’ve already started on my tier set that I’ve mostly gotten from the Catalyst in Dornegal. But for the other items that are from drops, what difficulty of dungeons/raids do I need to do for these?

If they were to drop in LFR can I then upgrade them with crests to be the same as what would drop from Normal, Heroic and Myhic? Or do they only drop from a certain difficulty? For example the Fleeting Massacre Footpads say they drop from Ky’Veza in Nerub-ar Palace. Can I do LFR to get them, or do they only drop in higher difficulty?

Thanks!

shift J allows you to look at loot from each boss in a raid to see what they drop.

Dungeon journal should give you all this info.

best gear overall is mythics. either m+ or mythic raids. i dont know what the bis is for your class/spec, but going purely by ilvl those are your options

Keep in mind every piece of gear has a “track” (quality level) that is determined by the difficulty it dropped in. Each track has a max ilvl you can upgrade it to.

So you can get a “best in slot” item on a low track from, say, LFR or Mythic 0 and while it will have the stats you want, it will never truly be BiS because you can’t upgrade it to anywhere 636 ilvl.

To get true BiS gear you need Mythic track items, which (mostly) only come from Mythic Raids or Mythic+ runs 10 and up.

Thank you, that is exactly what I needed to know.

Is it worth it trying to get BiS from content I can do now (LFR/Normal) before progressing to harder stuff when I am ready? Or do I start by just worrying about Ilvl and basic stats?

It’s not worth focusing on bis or prioritising xyz specific item over ilvl. All a bis list is, with the exception of unique effects on 1-2 items, is a combination of items that reaches a total number of secondary stats. While it might be the optimal configuration, there will be hundreds that adhere to the same general priorities and are within an extremely small percentage of eachother.

The exception to this can be trinkets, it’s good to have an understanding of which ones you want as well as how much exactly one is better than another.

The only time you may possibly want to farm lower track gear is if you feel like you need a little more “oomph” to beat the difficulty level you are currently attempting.

But generally speaking, it is not worth farming gear (BiS or not) if it is below the highest track gear that you are capable of getting. For example, if you can do normal raids, then it is not worth farming LFR.
