This is the 4th 20 minutes guide I watch and I’m still just as confused. There are way too many currencies, reagents, upgrade systems, which I can’t even enumerate because all of it just blurs into an overdesigned mess. We don’t need dozens of safety nets where your first X kills on Y mob guarantee Z drop some key you need to open caches somewhere else which then give you gear you have to upgrade or craft using someone else’s profession providing your own optional reagents which may or may not give you the ilvl you want…
Let’s not even delve into the Catalyst. God have mercy on your soul if you’re a transmog collector.
Just let me kill something and loot the gear. Make it RNG whether you get a drop (don’t make the ilvl RNG, we’ve seen where that goes). Simple. Basic.

This is literally the best time to be a mog collector. You can get a full mythic tier appearance completely solo in the current season. To my knowledge that has never happened in wow’s history.

Get piece of gear, use currency the 2 currencies to upgrade it
You have geared

There aren’t. It’s one system, tracks of gear. Valorstones and Crests. Crests go up by difficulty, same with tracks.
Go to vendor, see what it takes to upgrade gear, upgrade. Don’t have currency? Mouse over the Crest to see where it comes from.
Wut?
It’s a key for a treasure chest at the end of a Delve. What’s the problem here?
Stop doing public orders.
I’m a transmog collector. If I don’t get it now, I’ll go back later in other expansions and run this stuff. Like we’ve been doing for ages. Or I now have the option to save old gear now for next season and just use the Catalyst for free. What’s the issue?
Upgrade system is fantastic. Now I don’t have to worry about replacing something so quickly with something else I hate because it’s an ilevel upgrade with crap stats. I can keep what I want and upgrade it.
This isn’t rocket science.

We progressed passed that decades ago, even Diablo has gearing systems now.
If all it took was killing boars to gear up this game would be dead in the water real quick.
I understand that coming in as a new player the game can seem overwelming, you just have to play it and it’ll start making sense.
If you have any questions feel free to ask.
Good luck!
What I mean is, if you want to get the most out of the Catalyst for transmog, you have to be super careful about which piece of gear you keep in order to catalyse it when you have some spare charges, and nowhere is it written what piece converts to what colour of the tier set. It takes a lot of effort for something that should be so simple.
We most certainly have not.
- The Catalyst’s main purpose is not transmog.
- Just keep sets of veteran through hero in your bank and Catalyze them for free next season.
- Go back in the next expansion or few and run the raids for transmog.
No one should be stressing out over this.
I made additional DK just to get the lfr/normal appearances so I can get them faster lol

I mean… if you want them faster, sure. I actually did world PvP because I was that desperate for the black Undermine set. lol
But it’s not like ways to get it go away.

I forgot about the wpvp set!
I’m missing the polearm and have been banging my head against delves trying to get it to drop, I’ll just go get some bloody tokens and snag it
Thanks

Uh, literally that’s all you have to do is kill stuff. Do a dungeon lol. its not complicated at all.
Gearing up is simple. if you just want your ilvl to go up run dungeons and M+. If you want to speed things up there are options, but if collecting gear is the only priority, just do keys and loot the end chest.
I was doing the WQs that give a bunch for completion— while trying to hide from people.
Catalyst is the best thing to come to WoW if you’re a transmog collector, what are you talking about?

Oh yea you get like 50 or 100 just for doing any world quests with PvP PvP enabled isn’t it?
In S1 I’d usually just find the wpvp quest and just cannonball in and abom limb away

It’s only complicated if you think you have to do all methods of gearing, you don’t, just pick something that sounds fun and bam!! you get loot. You get upgrade currencies pretty much doing whatever, spend it and bam!! your loot is upgraded.
You’re welcome.
The answer is just run mythic+, that is the best gearing system by a landslide.
Having a little responsibility on how to gear is bad apparently.

While I don’t agree with:
Y’all who say gearing is simple probably just don’t care too much about the details.
Just as an example, here’s a post I made shortly after coming back to the game, as I was in the process of understanding the upgrade system PSA on gear upgrade system
This nuance is not at all obvious. Technically it’s documented, but it’s REALLY easy to overlook how important this can be.
The crafting system was also very difficult for me to understand. I don’t want to devote a bunch of gilded crests towards a crafted weapon if there’s even the slightest chance that you’ll not get the highest ilvl. Of course, now that I’ve done it, it’s simple. But it’s not well documented that you can NOT use the public order system to get a top-level item, and you have to find a specific person to craft your gear.
There’s much more that’s not obvious, like how to unlock Crest trade-ups. There are important trade-offs to be made too, like “Should I upgrade this Champion piece at the costs of Crests, or should I wait for a Hero piece to drop that’ll get me my upgrade for free”? Having choices is good, but the knowledge of crest-unlocks may greatly influence your decision on the latter point. Without really knowing everything, you’re bound to do something you’ll later regret.
Edit: I do think the current gearing system is good. It’s just not simple.
