Is my client just bugging out, or did they disable this feature already?
Edit: Gear Update feature seems to be back as of yesterday, but I have not done any further testing with it.

Same issue here I have 30 plus characters I haven’t updated yet and all the gear update is missing on them. I renewed an account ( I have 4) that I hadn’t played in 2 years just so I could update all those characters and now it seems we have been duped.
Might be related to my issue I just posted, my Gear Updates bugged out, and I am going on 48+ hours stuck unable to log in to all but a single character.
So is this part of the issue with the cross realm issues? When I have done a gear update. It is not checking the gear I have as to what it is giving me. So I had a priest I did this with. And it took my ilvl from 250 down to 187. It sent me what I was wearing which is fine, but is there not a way for it to check the item level before the gear update begins? I would imagine this would be better suited for fresh 60’s…
Every single character I tested this on ended up with worse/less gear, and I was not even able to enter a lot of content because it thought I was a boosted character.
I love that it clears the quest log, empties your bags, and teleports you to the capitol next to the Chomie homie, but the gear being so garbage does make me wish it would only swap your gear if it was higher item level. Full agree on that.
Seems like they may have disabled it to fix some issues, including it causing characters to get stuck and unable to be logged into, or other bugs.
Would be nice to have an explanation though.
I have been having this exact issue.
What? Pretty sure thats not how the group finder works…It just sees you have gear of X ilvl or not and lets you in.
Are you trying to say something else? I am confused.
Whenever you boost a character, you cant enter legacy dungeons/raids for like 24 hours or something.
The game I guess counts this as a boost and restricts you from entering legacy dungeons for a day after using it.
Dont use this. I got my main stuck by this ridiculoius bug. I simply cant play the game becouse the character wont log in.
I opened a ticket for this character won’t up date. Sent me here sounds like to me they don’t want to here about it. It don’t matter as long as they get your money every month. Very frustrating send you to a form fix the dang problem.
I had an issue related to the Gear Update - I did the boost (successfully) on a highmountain I hadn’t played in a while. I didn’t think about it, but when I hit 50 (he was around 45 when I boosted) I didn’t get the heritage armor. Apparently the gear update is considered a boost. They couldn’t get me the achievement, but said they were working on it a permanent fix as its a known issue. I’m guessing its causing a lot of problems and they’re disabling it while they work out the bugs. It was a bit underwhelming for me, who regularly plays, just not on all my alts. I can see the value for a returning player, but its clearly got some issues.
I asked if they could cancel or reverse the Gear Update since i saw after it I would be eligible to Heritage Armor. Here is the answer i got
“I<m sorry to hear you<ve run into some trouble with the new Gear Update we introduced, realising you can<t earn Heritage Armor on that particular character would not be nice at all. Now a lot of other players have reported this to us, so we<ve passed their reports onto the Dev team to review, as it may be broken and it so only they will be able to fix it for everyone. Right now we don<t have a direct workaround, so must sit tight and wait for the Devs own investigation to complete. And to answer your actual question, once used, it isn,t possible to reverse the update”.
I was kinda expecting to not be able to reverse the update, but figured i could ask.
Now I"m not reading this as a promise we will be able to claim Heritage Armor on Updated Chars, just that they are looking into it. Hopefully they fix it because i Update a bunch of mid level toons of races I don<t yet have the HA.
This feature seems to be re implemented now, however I have not tested it since they turned it back on.
I used it on a level 10 alt I didn’t care too much to see how it worked. Seemed ok and I made plans to update a few other characters that were eligible according to the login screen. Now those same characters don’t have the Gear Update option despite me not logging into them.
Edit: The option to use Gear Update on those characters reappeared a couple days ago.
I used the feature on this character just before it was disabled and this girl got stuck in the processing loop. I had also used on a mage on a second account without any trouble. I was going to use it on my other eligible characters on two accounts but none of them have it anymore and haven’t since it was disabled.
It disappeared today, for all of the toons that had it available. Idk what’s going on.
I’m trying to access all my alts on an alternate acct. With the new warband character list, I found one I haven’t played in years. The Gear Update shows, but when I click on the character, there is no gear update option.
If it didn’t SAY Gear Update on the alt’s name, I would assume it’s no longer available.
Has anyone gotten a decent answer from WoW on this?
Bump. I came here to the forums to report the same problem.
Okay I found the solution. You have to be logged into that character’s server in order for the UPDATE button to appear.
Not very intuitive, with the new login screen, but at least there is a solution.
Yes, thank you. I reported this to Bliz help after I got a word salad reply. When you click (once!) on your alt that shows Gear Update, look at the top of your screen to see Shop - Menu - Realms.
Mouse-over your alt’s name to see which realm it’s in - if you have many, many alts, you may not remember.
Click on Realms and you will be given your list of realms.
Click on the appropriate realm and your Gear Update option will show.
Yes, NOT intuitive, but there was a fine-print notice…
