Wouldnt it be better and simplier to just have one track per item? Like instead of explorer, adventurer, champion, heroic and mythic you have 1-10 so heroic would be 7-8/10 and mythic would be 9-10/10 etc.

It would be nice, and that’s how the new gear will work in Season 4 on a new track called Awakened.

Only some of it though.
I think they use the different levels of gear as a bit of a gatekeep to force players into harder content and keep them away from doing something like farming whelplings crests and up trading them in a degen grind.
Well we can do that now once we reach a certain point (the Dreaming of… achievements), but it does feel like it was designed to counter the Valor farming from Season 1.
