What’s the gear path at this point? Started today at 708. Did 3 ToV and 3 EN and was at 717 after that. Then did 3 NH. 717 still. 20/21 pieces of gear between boss drops and motes were 721. Granted I still have a 695 wrist and a 701 ring but not getting upgrades for those. Is that what’s holding me back? Did I just lose two hours today for nothing, or can I still get more item levels someway…maybe a gear trader or something? m+ doesn’t seem to give anything towards gearing.
740 is where gear stops. Make sure to clear out bag.
Your items from motes and special reward chests drop like 6 ilvl higher than your bag item level (if you hover your mouse over your ilvl it’ll show you your bag ilvl if it’s higher than your equipped ilvl) so it’s usually a good idea to keep extra rings and trinkets in your bags just in case they’re unique slots and don’t count for ilvl.
Make sure you’re also applying sand to you weapons.
There will be times where your ilvl upgrade cap is the same as most of your gear and yeah you will have to just wait until you get a drop that replaces one of these lower items, raising your ilvl by just 1 point is usually enough to get upgrades flowing again.
In the endgame, the max ilvl on drops seems to tied directly to the ilvl of your artifact . And sand drops in turn seem to be tied to your gear upgrade progress.
I’m not 100% if it’s checking your ilvl, minimum ilvl or some other number for when to drop extra artifact-upgrading sand but might want to just double-check your bags to make sure none is hiding anywhere?
(If someone knows of a source where this has all been figured out exactly rather than my rambling observations, I’d welcome any corrections)
As others have suggested, clear out your bags of any gear items lower than the overall item level of gear equipped. If you get an upgrade, leave it in your bags before using motes or opening caches of infinite power, this way you can trick the system into generating upgrades.
I remember getting a roadblock around the same ilvl no matter what I did for a day or two, then finally it started going up and 730-740 was incredibly fast (or would have been if I didn’t get 30 arcane ward jewelry pieces)
Just check this article out and do what it says. You should be good.
I think the gear can stop going up if a piece falls too far behind, and you have to replace it. This didn’t happen to me, but I could see rng causing problems.
Do you always do the quest every day that gives you a free jewelry piece?
This toon hit the 721 wall too. I had been doing the common wisdom thing of leaving a higher ilvl green item in my bag if I had a purple with desirable secondary stats. It never seemed to work as described for me, so I went full mercenary mode and scrapped everything I wasn’t wearing. Eventually it loosened RNGs bowels enough to give me items in the 730s and 740 soon followed.
There is some kind of bug or design flaw where you can sometimes get stuck on an item level with only the same ilvl drops over and over again until rng kicks in and replaces the lowest piece(s) of gear that is dragging your ilvl down. My worst streak was on my first toon, he couldn’t gain an ilvl to save his life for 5 days of a TON of farming.
I think that’s what happened here. I cleared out my bags as suggested above, and the next mote gave a 727.
That’s the flaw with the system. The ability to buy baseline gear with bronze would be far superior. In MoP remix we had to dump too much bronze into gear. Now in Lemix they’ve removed bronze from the upgrade path… only to result in us having far too much of it, nothing to use it on, and gearing up alts being incredibly tedious since there are no catch up mechanics.
The Blizzard Pendulum.
Now if the next remix can strike a balance between MoP and Legion, it will be truly amazing.
