Gear in the AH says level 70, but when I buy it for my level 72 alt, get it from the mailbox and now it’s only usable at level 80. Specifically, the Underscout’s Trousers of the Peerless. I’ve relisted the item and I hope it sells so I can get my gold back, but why is this happening? It’s too hard to search the AH for gear when I can’t trust the required level .

I believe this is a side effect of the new AH, in that you have to click on the item itself in order to see the correct level requirement. I’m at work so I can’t make a quick video about what I believe is the new norm.

I search “usable only” and “upgrades” only. Can also click “current expansion only”
Gear scaling has been broken in AH since the new AH, if you click into it and then look at the tooltip it’ll show the correct level or you can judge it based off ilvl.

Yes, that is rather misleading. On one of my alts, I bought two pieces that stated the same level 70 requirement, only to discover the same thing as you…so now they’re sitting in a bag, waiting for that toon to hit lvl 80.
Unfortunately, while the item is still listed in the auction house, the tooltip lies to you.
When you select Armor, select type (cloth, mail, etc), select item type (chest legs, etc) and hit “Search” you see level 70. Then when you click on the item you go to the next AH page where you select which of that item you want to “buy out”.
Hover over the item again and you will see the “Level 80” restriction.

Noticed this the other day when I bought a couple weapons for my warrior and had the useable box checked. He’s level 78 and the gear is for a level 80 which means it’s not useable. Something I assume they will fix at some point.
The usable filter doesnt work on those items unfortuately, will still show the Top level that says 70 but when you drill down into it, than it shows the L80 variants
It’s a bug, search 71-75 or whatever and it’ll clear up, or just look by ilvl
unless they fixed it recently, “upgrades only” feature is broken since prepatch.
Curious. Is this gear that’s crafted? Im thinking that is BOP though if an item is used to update it’s ilvl.
I don’t believe so. I can’t be sure (since I don’t currently have access to the game to confirm), but I believe it’s all the green quality gear at ilvl 528 that are the culprits. When you view the AH listings of them, they clearly say level 70…but after buying them, it changes to level 80.

Same problem here, my hunter is now unplayable level 70, with item level 463. War Within keep getting killed all the time. Total game breaker for me. Time to Retire the hunter and try another alt.
