Gear Durability and Repairs

I’m posting this because someone in newcomer chat asked a question about it.

Gear durability is lowered when taking damage from mobs and especially when you die. If your durability reaches 0 then it’s essentially the same as not having gear equipped in that equipment slot. There are many NPCs around the world that can repair your gear. An anvil icon will appear when you hover over them with your cursor. If you can’t find a repair vendor in a major city, try asking a guard for directions to a blacksmithing profession trainer. There should be a repair vendor in the area. Otherwise, most towns/outposts have a repair vendor somewhere. You just have to look around for them.

The repairs tracking feature was removed at some point and I really think they should bring it back to help new players repair their gear.

Engineering vendors usually offer repairs as well.

While the ability to turn on/off track repairs was removed it is now on by default for everyone. An anvil will appear on the minimap for any NPC that can repair.

If people have enough gold for it too, the Grand Expedition Yak mount and the Tundra Mammoth has a vendor on it that can repair as well.

I am playing a new mage (Wogen in Gilneas). Once the quest line lead me away from Graymane Manor, I have been unable to find anyone to repair my gear (I keep expanding the mini map, looking for the anvil) and have not been able to find anything, including in Stormglen Village.
Does anyone know where I will find the next npc so I can repair my gear?

Apparently - and this surprises me - there is only one repair vendor in Gilneas

near Duskhaven.

Can there be only one? At least, that’s all Wowhead can find.

But do you really NEED repairs?

Your gear functions perfectly until the point where you have died so much that a piece in a slot is actually broken and turns red. Up to that point, the piece performs 100%.

Gear doesn’t do less, protect you less, hit less hard, give you less power, just because it has taken some damage. Only when it is fully broken is there any change in its value.

A lot of us develop the habit of repairing very often, and that’s a nice habit to have, but it is not necessary.
