Gear Dependency

What class are gear dependent in classic?

The classes that I have that aren’t gear dependent are Hunter and Rogue.

Talking about End game level 60.

Warrior is the most gear dependant, but also scales the best.

A Warrior in greens and blues at 60 will struggle to fight anything for the most part. A Warrior in full epics in Naxx gear can and will obliterate just about anything he looks at.

In PvP at least, I’ve seen a bunch of videos of naked Warlocks killing fairly well geared level 60 players.

Generally speaking, casters are less gear dependent than melee.

This does depend what you mean by ‘gear dependent’, though, since you seem to be talking about a floor of effectiveness. (Rogues scale quite well with gear, for example, they just also have non-scaling damage options that they can use when they don’t have good gear.)

If that’s the case, I would say that warrior is really the only class that outright isn’t good at low gear levels. Every other class has tricks they can use to succeed regardless of gear.

What the guy above said is correct, casters are generally less gear dependent than other classes in classic. Warrior being the most, hunter and mage probably being the least.

Meele are more gear dependent then anything else, Warriors > Rogues >Ench shammy’s.

Mages might favor slightly different talents naked vs geared but they are pretty independent.

As far as the most gear dependent in Classic, it is Warrior by miles.

Whether you want to Tank or DPS there is a very specific pre-raid list of gear you need to farm. If you care at all about advancing past the 5 man dungeon stage you basically have to do this.

Beyond that in this era of WoW just getting a really great weapon(s) can make it seem like you are playing a brand new suddenly powerful character.

True story… I once died to a pair of level 50 something Rogues as a full T2 geared Prot Warrior in the Badlands. It took them forever to kill me, I parried and dodged most of their attacks. They could only damage me when they caught me in a stun lol. Problem is, I did such poor damage to them in return… Will never forget it.

I’d like to have run into those two a month later when I got Ashkandi and was doing a little PVP while the guild was on a raiding break.

What do you mean by gear dependent? I’d say you’d have quite a challenge with dungeons, raids, and pvp if you didn’t wear any gear.

About rogues…in 1.11 or 1.12 they changed Eviscerate to scale somewhat based in attack power.

Warriors, Rogues, Hunters, Enhancement Shaman, and Retadins all heavily rely on a good weapon to deal damage. Otherwise every class is about equal.

Not sure where you got your information but hunter and rogue are gear dependent. Any class that relies on weapon damage is gear dependent. That said, warlock is least gear dependent class.

Warriors are the most gear dependent Melee class, as well as the most gear dependent overall. They hit like wet noodles with poor gear, but are top DPS from pre-raid best in slot gear to Naxx where the Mages take over.

Warlocks are the most gear dependent ranged class. They’re pretty bad in Molten Core (though this may be due to debuff limits) and by AQ40 they’re hanging with the big boys.

Technically everyone is gear dependant… in pvp if someone outgears you they might kill you easier. In PVE if you’re late to the raiding scene and your guildmates have MC on farm you’re gonna do a lot less dps than your guildmates.

You are right though… rogues do a ton of dps with a lot less gear than other classes. We are quite dependant on weapons though. Love the Brutality Blade.

pssshhh I know you meant Vis’kag.

Brut Blade is bae.

Dagger rogues need a good dagger.
Warriors very reliant on it.

A crappy geared fire mage can kill people with ease, but are class cannons.

Fury warriors were always more “gear dependent” than arms warriors - but mostly because they could be so squishy. It was still fun to swing around two weapons and get in some lucky crits.

Ah yes, good ol’ enchantment shamans.

I heard druids aren’t very gear dependent. Innervate only cared that you targeted a priest. The spell didn’t care what gear you had on.
