Hi, i have some gears with similar stats and I cant decide which is better, (for example one has more haste, other for the same slot has more critical strike).
Is there any convenient way to choose between two similar gears, and how to determine which has better dps output? (lets say for single target dps)
Is those fight dummies useful for that, is there any addon to measure and compare dps?
Thanks ppl
You should check up on stat priority for your specialization on sites like wowhead or icy vens.
Here’s an example from icy veins.

If you are unsure, you can use this site to simulate your character’s dps
https://www.raidbots.com/simbot/stats
There is an addon called simulationcraft you can download. What it does is it gives you a quick code of your character you can paste on that site above. What you can try doing is equipping gear 1 and then copy code. Gear 2, copy code. Then run them and check if there’s a significant dps increase.
Be aware that most sites that have stat recommendations base those recommendations on some assumptions about what abilities you have that would benefit from those stats. Typically, the recommendations are more relevant for higher level players than lower level ones.
You also tend to not have enough secondary stats available at low levels to make a really significant difference to your performance whereas your main stat, be it agi, str, or int, provides benefits throughout your level range.
As a general rule of thumb, I don’t deliberately stack secondary stats until level 30-35-ish. Prior to that, I just concentrate on main stats. It makes life much simpler.
I didnt noticed i was logged on the forum with my level 16 alt
I was asking that question for endgame (ATM my main lvl 60 frost DK )
So my question was if i switch (for example trinkets) switch one with stat +50 with other stat +50, what will be difference?
I know those website recommendations, but can i measure that difference myself? There must be a output difference.
At end game, which stats are best is not an easy question to answer. Not only does it depend on spec and talents, but also what stats your other gear has.
So, if you really want to get into the nuts and bolts, you probably want to use a simulator. The simplest way to generally do it though is to use an addon like Sumulationcraft that will give you a string of text encoding a snapshot of your charcter that you can copy/paste into a site like raidbots.com to see your theoretical dps with a given gear setup. It’s not an area I have any experience with, so someone else will have to help you with anything beyond that.
If you want to do some “real world” testing using the training dummies, then you can use addon like Details! to track your dps.
Raidbots is fairly good but theoretical simulations don’t always equate to real world performance where buffs provided by other group members can come into play and impact your dps.
Abilities that proc when a mobs health reaches a certain level can proc earlier when multiple group members are hitting the mob.
Conversely, dots and bleeds may not be worth their resource cost if the group can kill a mob before they run their course but they look good against a single target dummy.
That was precisely what i was looking for! Thanks!
You can also learn about the better secondary stats of your spec (Fire Mage) empirically with the wisdom of many.
PVPLeaderboard has a “Stats” tab for every spec, so you can see which secondary stats all the PvPers are stacking.
Quick and convenient? No, not really. But there is an effective way to know what stats are better.
Simulationcraft - program that will use YOUR character with YOUR gear in a fight simulation to estimate your dps. Then it adds x amount of one stat and runs the sims again. Then it adds x amount of another and sims it again. It does that for all of the stats you choose and tells you how effective each one is for your talents and gear. This “weighting” can change any time you change any of your gear.
Pawn - In-game addon. You import the results from simulationcraft and it will show you in the item tooltip if that item is an upgrade. It comes with its own stat weights that are NOT based on your specific character, so beware that is what the default settings are showing.
I haven’t watched this vid but there are many like it if this does not explain it well.

I don’t think there’s much difference in 50 of one thing to 50 of another unless you studied your dps at a target dummy.
Like I have two pairs of pants that have different stats on them, but they sim the exact same damage +/- 8 dps.
It won’t be until later in the expansion, when gear has enough secondary stats, to reach the point of diminishing returns, that the differences are noticeable.
I don’t want to sound like a parrot, but the others are right. Get your stat weight string from Raidbots, and import it into Pawn.
