So, I’m pretty sure that everyone knows by now that Gazlowe is now Trade Prince of the Bilgewater Cartel…which I am super stoked for, but something bothered me.
Has anyone seen this reflected in game? in a short story? Anything to say how this happened?
I know Wowhead unearthed broadcast text for it, but I have never seen it in-game, or can find any videos or posts about it outside the PTR Broadcast Text for 8.3 that Wowhead did. Did Blizzard just forget to implement it? Or have I just missed it?
It is mentioned in Shadow Rising that Gazlowe sits on the Horde Council, but it never states how it happened. It just assumed it has already.
Like example: the small interaction between Thrall and Geya’rah, Liadrin and her knights, Thalyssra in the portal room, and Gazlowe in the AH scenes pop up and I can see them…but…No Gazlowe becomes Trade Prince scene.
The only reference I can find in game is during the quest Warchief of the Horde, when the Horde Council is formed. After the cutscene, you can find Thrall and Gazlowe talking outside (probably easy to miss if you don’t know it’s there):
Thrall says: Gallywix has fled the city along with the rest of Sylvanas’ inner circle. That leaves the Bilgewater Cartel without its trade prince. Thrall says: Gazlowe, it was your cleverness and ingenuity that built the walls of Orgrimmar. I cannot think of anyone I would trust more to take over as leader. Gazlowe says: A cartel ain’t a clan or a tribe, Thrall. Steamwheedle, Bilgewater… it don’t matter who supplies the cash–so long as the pay’s good. Gazlowe says: “Under new management” is just another way of sayin’ ““opportunity’s knockin’””. So, sure… you got yourself a deal! Thrall says: Can you be sure that none of the goblins here are still being funded by Gallywix? Gazlowe says: Oh, I guarantee they are. That’s why I’m gonna pay 'em more than that cheapskate.
I thought that was the whole point, and culmination of the Goblin Heritage Armor questline? I hadn’t heard anything else about it since it hit beta (besides people talking about how the armor looked), so I just assumed it hit live as is.
I believe that Yseut pulled up the only reference to Gazlowe becoming the new trade prince. It was pretty much glossed over. I wasn’t expecting anything too grandiose but it could have been a bit more present.
During most of bfa I just wanted Gallywix dead. I was so sick of his crap, seems like everytime he is givin spotlight it’s as bad guy that you can do anything about. Heck, he murders the goblins PC’s gf/bf in the goblin starting experience.
You are right that he has got personality and now I hope he takes over the venture co and is a reoccurring villian. He wasn’t the right guy to lead the bilgewater as a part of the horde.
I dont get how a character can “be another anduin” and be an “arnt goblins aweful” joke. That’s like oil and water.
Personally, I thought the entry to mechagon was a great way to have Gazlowe begin taking a more prominent role in the horde along side the bildgewater. He isn’t openly antaginistic towards the pc or his people and is definitely ready to get his hands dirty when need be. It is telling that when ever the horde needed something done they went to Gazlowe and not Gallywix. He is overall characterized as better able to lead goblins in the new council.
Gazlowe is boring and will continue to be boring and Blizzard will never give him the spotlight he deserves or that the Goblins deserve. See Shadows Rising.
If you are a fan of Goblin lore you should want a standout character like Gallywix to be in charge. Yes, Gallywix is of a questionable moral aptitude, but that’s a source of drama and storytelling.
Where is the storytelling for Gazlowe?
“Gazlowe agreed with Thrall everytime always, The End” You think I’m joking…but that’s literally a plot point in Shadows Rising!! Thrall cannot accept Gazlowe disagreeing, even for a moment, with his own opinion.
See bfa for some spotlight and growth for goblins. Like I said, when ever the horde needed something done they went to Gazlowe, not Gallywix. He has a much longer history with the franchise dating back to wc3 I believe and has has been featured across multiple expansions. Bfa featured him a decent amount with mechagon intro as well as fighting for the horde in island expeditions.
Gallywix was a pompous bafoon and in the end a bad guy, his complete and utter disregard for the lives of anyone especially goblins under him has become tiresome and one note. He did it in cata when he was introduced to the game, and nothing changed in bfa when he next got any spotlight. Gallywix isn’t of questionable moral aptitude, he is 100% skummy, nothing questionable about him.
Gazlowe jumping the gnomes at the abandoned junk heap and killing them but making sure that the life insurance payments of those horde that fell while working for him got to the families shows a range of characteristics. We all know Gallywix’s responce would have been “lol now I don’t have to pay them, too bad more of you didn’t die.” Doing all this to make sure that the horde doesn’t miss out on a possible technological advantage is interesting.
As a fan of goblins I was bored of the portrayal that came with Gallywix, 0 depth, 0 range of motivations, 100% skum, 100% of the time. He would be more than happy to toss each and every goblin in a mulcher if it paid enough per head. He makes a good reoccurring villian not someone to make choices on behalf of a faction of people and I do hope we get to see what dastardly thing he is up too soon after being left trapped in a mech (because he is an idiot) in the heritage quest chain.
I dont disagree that Gallywix isnt an entertaining character, he just in no way can lead. Especially in the new horde council. I see the future rivalry between Gazlowe and Gallywix being a lot of fun and good for goblins as a whole. In a lot of ways having one is good for the other.
You bring up an intersting point with shadows rising. I personally didn’t think there would, or needed to be any narrative stuff for goblins. Goblins and gnomes are likly the only peoples to have made it out of bfa with positive developments. With new characters being brought in and arcs being wrapped up, well aside from Gallywix. Shadows rising needed to cover some of the many other unanswered plot threads that bfa left dangling in the wind.
Tldr: Gallywix is 1 note and makes a good bad guy, not a good faction leader.
The only time I thought Gallywix had any depth was in the short story The Blank Scroll. But then they did nothing with that so he went back to a greedy moron.
I dont main a Goblin anymore but if I did I’d rather have Gazlowe as the racial leader. I want a racial leader that embodies the best parts of the race. Gallywix embodied only the worst parts of the Goblin race.
After the quest to defeat N’Zoth is completed you can get a quest from Valeera in the Great Seal called A Gathering of Champions, which leads to the Warchief of the Horde quest cinematic that establishes the Horde Council.
After the quest is completed the council members (with the exception of Ji Firepaw) break off into a private conversations with one another. Below is the Thrall and Gazlowe conversation.
Gazlowe says: A cartel ain’t a clan or a tribe] Thrall.
I appreciate the different take on Goblin mindset that Gazlowe offers. In a way his approach is pragmatic as Gallywix. He believes that investing properly gets you better results. The best workers will want to work for you. By the same logic, workers will be loyal and go the extra mile to get you success because they know that you will offer them the best deal. In a way it is almost a more positive spin on Goblin Greed.
Honestly Gallywix got old after a while. I found how he was presented in the two short stories about him had potential but in the end he just ended up as a caricature of corporate greed and that got old pretty quickly.
Thank you! I missed it on my my main but I just trudged through Nzoth LFR on an alt and can confirm that it happens to the west of the Ambassador Hall, really out of the way. Should have been right out front.
