I’m not really sure what I’m doing wrong. I’ve adjusted to smaller pulls, etc.
But i390 in a 14 RLP yesterday and the first big mob in there is chunking me for 60% of my hp every crush, with ironfur and ironbark rolling. The dragonkin there with steel barrage will kill me if I don’t have iron fur, FR, and a CD rolling for every barrage.
The first boss, I got gibbed on an attempt and it was from taking some 200k nukes that I used my FR charges for, and then when whelps came out I just took an endless stream of 8k hits (through fur and rage).
I compare that to playing on my prot warrior and its just night and day. I don’t feel like I get uber-chunked like this. What’s wrong with bear mitigation this xpac?
Bear mitigation is just poorly designed. But realistically you just have too rotate between your cds very well. Basically gotta have some combo of cd and regen.
For ruby i actually do run an entirely different build and go just entirely defensive with regrowth procs and cd reduction on regen. Makes a massive difference.
Oh and use earthwarden, alot of guides dont say to really go into it.
To me its just a requirement and smooths out a ton of dmg.

390 is a tad low for a 14 but not terrible. 395 is probably where you want to be for 14-15 keys.
Personally I find the Laser Bear build to be far less durable than the Ursocs Bear. The main benefit of Laser Bear is higher damage and more frequent incarns from the rage gen / spent, but if you’re not actually able to do more big incarn pulls than it’s strictly a “more offensive, less durable” build.
In RLP in particular it’s very difficult to do bigger pulls because of the Firespinners and Dragons on the ring and the miniboss you’re mentioning before the first boss, so you might as well use the Ursocs / Earthwarden / Cenarius build. Aim for multiple stacks of ironfur for that miniboss and be careful not to get hit by any of those puddles.
If you are not pugging, convince 1 or 2 of your DPS to use a cooldown on the miniboss, especially if they will be available again by the first whelp phase.
For the first boss you are not supposed to face tank those whelps, they will murder you. Get a couple swipes/thrashes off and leave them in a Vortex within cleave range of the main boss so your DPS can kill them while burning through the shield phase. A ton of damage during the shield phase is magical (bosses pulsing AOE) so either use incarn and thrash-kite the adds around the boss and/or use Maul on the boss (since the Ursoc’s absorb from Maul will negate the magic damage, ironfur is less helpful).

LMAO!
He didn’t wanna hear it when I told him months ago. He stuck his fingers in his ears and went…. “Lalalalalala”
Now he’s getting slapped around and others are telling him to use UFR/Maul.
Hilarious!
Yea, what everybody here is saying is right. I only use laser bear on 10 or less when helping guildies.
When it’s key prog time, you have to go the super armor, quicker rejuiv, massive regrowth and earthwarden mode. Rotate cds and sometimes pop them early as you run to grab the next pull. Also, stock up on health pots.
I’ve tested both styles with healers and they always say the galactic bear is much harder to heal. Our self healing is only marginally better anyhow but we take far less damage.

Not really sure who you’re talking to. I was never really anti-maul. I think the only posts I have are basically saying I wish maul wasn’t on the GCD. I don’t mind having a rage dump into a damage spender. I don’t mind that damage spender coming with a defensive utility.
It does feel bad having that defensive on the GCD though.
Ah, sorry My bad.
Similar name I guess .
But yes.
Yes…. Use the left side of the tree.
Beefy mauls plus UFR shields from thrash will build better defense against more mobs. You’re not dumping any rage. They are free. It happens instantly, each use, while moonfire has to be applied , or rng proc from GG. It won’t apply to all the mobs quickly enough before you need that healing.
And those massive Regrowths are essentially a Lay on Hands every 20 sec.
I mainly just doo that stuff specifically for ruby. That dungeons design is just rough without extra defensives.
Not for nothing, but all of the “top” guardians are running the GG build still. The left side may be better if all you do is pug, but it isn’t “better” than the GG build.
Probably because GG Laserbear is still higher damage.
And if you’re doing those ultra high keys that’s what matters once survivability is at a level where you can interact with mobs without being instagibbed.
If you’re one of the leaders of the pack (I brought puns!) then your going to be kiting and expertly managing those Cooldowns and won’t need that extra survivability.
But that Right Side build is still dropping thrash/maul shields and surprisingly large sources of mitigation like Earthwarden. And it feels bad losing them, even to an ultra-casual like me. But LazerDiscoBear does pump out the damage.
Bear in mind OP that Blizzard KNOWS they borked the trees for druid and we’re getting a rework with the next patch. Maybe as soon as Tuesday? IDK when it’s dropping, but I’m certain the new ‘IN’ specs have already been decided by our spreadsheet gods.

Yeah the new changes and added spells look very promising for guardian.
Aoe maul. Ironfur does damage.
Lunar beam is back!

390 is a tad low for a 14 but not terrible. 395 is probably where you want to be for 14-15 keys.
And this is how you know the dungeons are over-tuned. Requiring 395 for 15’s when 395 is the ilvl of loot that 15’s drop. But you are absolutely right - you need to outgear the content to do the content or else you get wrecked.
Not everything has to be a walk in the park. It’s okay to have to work for your rewards from time to time.
A lot of the problem could also be coming from the PuG life. Or a healer that’s very reactive and not so much proactive in healing and helping set you up for pulls (dropping a defensive on you as you go in for example).
i’m not sure how we went from me saying 390 is “a tad low” to you saying “395 is required”.
The bosses are killable at (ilvl they drop -15). But also, -15 would be like “progression” level difficulty and is going to be a lot harder than -10 or -5 or -0. ilvl was particularly relevant in this case because the OP was using an offensive focused build that really isn’t as good at taking a beating. I’m sure he could take those hits at -10 ilvl with the Ursocs build.
And it’s not like going into a 14-15 with 395 isn’t fruitful just because they only drop 395, you are still getting a 408-411 vault selection out of it and getting closer to 1700 or 2000 rating for 408-411 valor upgrade unlocks for those 395’s you’re collecting.
I think the tuning feels a little off because blizzard opted to buff all keystones 11 and up by 10% more difficulty per level to appease the raid-only crowd who complained that M+ content was too easy for the ilvl it rewarded. Trying to do a 15 right now is equivalent to trying to a 16 in SL Season 1.

Any way I could get a link to the more robust build? Would be nice to have for mythics
The highest ranked Guardian Drood in raider io is using the laser bear build
Haramabi (blackhand EU)
BgGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSkkkSiSSSSkAcAJFKCgkggEIJJhkIFohDAAAAAAQEA
Edit: Most of the top guardians are using it too, just checked

He also has a team that’s very in sync allowing him to forego some defense in favor of offense.
General rule of thumb: if progressing in keys: go more defensive. If PuGging. Go more defensive. If playing with friends/familiar healer or group, the laser bear becomes a better option (more offense means things die faster and less defense needed).
Just because someone is using something in the 20+ range doesn’t mean that’s the best build for a 10-15.

I think generally moonfire build is going too be better in most keys, rage generation, sleeper, and incarn cdr is very good. It just requires a bit more rotational knowledge when it comes to dr usage.
From what I noticed there is a MAAASSSIVE Difference in dungeons from a 10 to a 12 everything seems to hit hell of a lot harder than before
I think someone said they upped key strength by 10% starting at 11. So a 15 is like a 16. A 20 is like a 22 from previous expansions/seasons
