Gathering while flying

Prior to today’s patch I was able to mine while flying / mounted. After the reset, I can’t do it anymore. Was this intentional? Was it a bug that I could mine while mounted before? Is there a way to continue to do so?

It was a bug. Throughout season 2 there was a bug that allowed you to mine while flying in any zone without special equipment and without obtaining the skill in the tree. It was glorious going into old zones and having mounted mining everywhere all the time. Alas it seems like they have fixed this. R.I.P.

You can still mine while flying in DF and TWW using the knowledge tree. It’s in mining fundamentals, last node.

The last node in Mining fundamentals allows you mining while mounted. Says nothing about flying. And it bites to not be able to mine while hovering off the ground. This is a terrible change. Blizzard, please let us mine while flying.

Just noticed this. Beyond annoying. Please return the flying.

You have misunderstood what I was saying, so I will clarify:

Mining while not touching the ground was always a bug.

The last node of Mining Fundamentals allows you to stay mounted on your flying mount. So when I say “mining while flying” I simply mean that you are on your flying mount and not dismounted; you still have to land. Being dismounted is the normal behavior without the perk.

They are NOT going to revert this. It was a bug to begin with. They are not going to “un-fix” the bug, no matter how much we enjoyed it.

Why not? Because:

  • It created a difference between steady flight and dynamic flight where one had to land (to stop moving) and the other could stay in the air
  • It created a difference between how mining worked vs how herbalism works.
  • It created a difference between how mining works between expansions
  • It nullified the risk for EZ-Mines, which are supposed to be a Risk-Reward. You are supposed to risk getting close to them to get 3x ore rewards. If you can hover above the little explosions, you avoid the risk entirely.

So it was nice for us, but hopefully you can see why, from their perspective, this is something they don’t want us to have.

It was nice while it lasted. We got a whole season of it. That’s honestly longer than I thought it was going to take for them to fix this.

That’s a bummer.

Not fun when making an alt and planning out the talent tree assuming the flying was staying. That skill costs 60 points…and when you’ve already used up the free points from the treasures in all the zones, that hurts.

Since I just made a new miner I can 100% commiserate.

But even without the nice little bug I still wouldn’t prioritize the mounted mining thing. Unless I’m a druid, overloading still will require me to be dismounted, so I’ll be dismounting for EZ mines anyway. I always go for the double overload first.

Overloading the EZ mines means more ore to tap. More ore to tap means more chance at catch-up to drop. So with a green deftness tool and the weaver buff I’ll be grabbing mounted mining soon enough (but mostly because it’s surrounded by finesse lol). On my new miner I’ve gotten as many as three catch-up items from a single EZ-mine.

I feel like it’s more of a bug now at this point after letting the “supposed” bug go unmentioned for a year.
