Gathering Nodes On Minimap

Let me start by saying this is the most fun I’ve had in WoW in a long time, I’m loving every feature including dragonriding… except for when I’m trying to gather mining/herbalism nodes.

I’ve only seen many posts about lack of vigor making gathering a pain (which I agree, having to just stop and wait every so often does feel bad) but none about the nodes on the minimap. I don’t stop for every node and now that we’re moving at 800-900% speed at most times without being able to hover and check our surroundings, it’s become a major annoyance to have to mouse over every single node on the mini map as I’m flying by to see if it’s one I want to stop for. This obviously was never an issue when traveling at 310% speed and being able to hover.

What I’m asking for is to (hopefully) simply allow us to color code the nodes on our mini map. This expansion you changed the nodes to differentiate between mining and herbalism. It would be very helpful to add to that and allow us to make each type of node, and not just the type but also specific element type (titan-touched ect.) a different color so at a glance we know when to stop.

Another suggestion along the same line as this, it would also be helpful to have gathering nodes marked somehow in the world rather than just the mini map. Having to constantly be staring at the mini map while gathering feels bad. Having played other games that did this either through in game options or addons, it would be a nice QOL change for gatherers.

It would be nice to have gathering nodes be color coordinated for sure. And given that they made it easier to distinguish WHAT type of node is great (Herb or Ore). Though I figured it is bound to happen that we are now going to be picky about which we want to go after more.

I wouldn’t be surprised there’s a addon out already that does this already or simply narrows down your choices of WHAT you want to see specifically to pop up on your minimap anyways, given for the longest time I’ve used a specific one to keep track of these nodes on the map but…I haven’t had much reason to update and use it to see if there’s any new features of said Addons. Still, it would be nice to have some easier distinctions between another that we prefer to gather rather than stopping and realizing its another generic herb/ore. xP

From what I’ve read about this topic, the mini map nodes aren’t able to be changed with addons, so if that’s the case then this is something Blizzard would have to address. Either themselves or by somehow letting addon creators do it, although I don’t know what that entails and it may not be possible.

I imagine its possible. The addons CAN add in additional icons. They would have to overlap and be in the foreground (Thus be viewed over the original, in-placed node icons). If it is true that they can’t adjust and modify what’s in place by the game, addons could at least put in more and do like I said. May not be the most healthy, optimized way but it theoretically should be possible. Though I can’t imagine how much that changed since they overhauled the UI anyways.

I wish they would but in a way I don’t. it makes it easier to separate the herbs and mining types at a glance where you can skip an area but it ruins the adventure in finding them.

I know it’s a waste of time for most but where’s the fun in it .

From my understanding, addons can tell where you’ve gathered a node and mark that, but cant tell when a node is actually spawned because those icons on the mini map are protected for whatever reason (maybe fragile code that could cause many other issues if tampered with).

Another fix they should do is change Dragonrider’s Cultivation to give a flat 1/5th vigor instead of a 10% rate increase that doesn’t even work as soon as you fly off.

Haven’t found one with color coding yet.

Are you talking about making them visible in the game world? I could understand that. But if you’re talking about color coding the mini map nodes, I don’t believe it would change much being able to customize them a little further, it would just eliminate the hassle of having to mouse over every single node as you fly by at 800% speed. I could also imagine it making a world of a difference for people with disabilities that would make quickly moving the mouse over and over again like that difficult.

I suppose that is a issue, yeah… Guess we’ll have to wait and see what people CAN do as far as making a working addon goes.

At 800 speed I wouldn’t have time to see them on a mini map any ways with mouse over but with a color coding I could at least know it is there.

Yes lack of vigor is definitely a pain sometimes, waiting around just feels bad. I’d still like to see them add some customization options to the new mini map markers though as well.

I just can’t see them ever adding unique identifiers on the minimap as much as we all want it. It would be too easy to program bots to go around and skip the trash nodes and get all the good stuff leaving a wasteland of Hochenblume.

Yes, I’d love to be able to customize the node colors… or even have a name tag on them! It is a bit ridiculous to have to scan over the minimap while flying full speed and making sure I don’t slam into anything or drop thrill.

Are bots a huge problem still with dragonriding? I thought with dragonriding being more interactive it cut down on a lot of the gathering botting, but I could be wrong that’s just what I’ve seen people say and personally I haven’t seen any bots, whereas with previous expansions by this time I would’ve seen a lot of them

Do you have a full flight tree? There are selections that up your vigor recovery when gathering.

You can fly extremely slowly, if you reach hover you begin to fall. Just pitch down, pick up a little speed and pitch back up to slow down.

Warp speed is used to get to the area, slow loitering speed is gathering speed. But both are enhanced a lot with a full flight tree. TomCatTours is a handy add that will mark your main map with the flight glyph locations, if you wanna get it done.

Yes unfortunately. I do a lot of gathering and see them quite a bit. You know those nodes that are stuck behind walls or under a rock we can’t tap? You will see them trap bots from time to time just standing there trying to gather them.

Yes I have full dragonriding, but sometimes going uphill and/or there’s many nodes around, I’ll run out. I used to enjoy just relaxing and gathering, I don’t really enjoy the mini game of having to manage my vigor while I’m gathering, although I don’t mind it outside of gathering.

It only works if you sit and let it recharge. The best fix for it would be to grant an instant 1/5th of vigor as soon as you gather.

Having to constantly be staring at the mini map while gathering feels bad.

Came here to say this. I feel like I’m locked into staring at the top corner of my screen while traveling around instead of enjoying all the great scenery.
