I am returning player and just leveled a new toon on a new server.
I picked up mining/herb in Oribos but my professions are still 1/300 after i mine and herb in the new content
am i missing something ?
Professions don’t work like they used to, they’re now split up by expansion. Each expansion has its own version of Mining & Herbalism that has to be trained & leveled up separately.
If your profession window is just showing “Mining” or “Herbalism” with a skill level of 1/300, it sounds like you didn’t pick up the Shadowlands skills (which have a cap of 150 skill points). Head back to Oribos & talk to the mining & herbalism trainers to get the Shadowlands Mining & Herbalism skills.
If you want to level up your core Mining & Herbalism skills you’ll have to head back to Azeroth & gather in the vanilla & Cataclysm zones, those are the only areas where you can gain those skill points (just like Shadowlands is the only place you can earn points in Shadowlands Mining & Herbalism). But you don’t have to do that unless you want to - you can level up your Shadowlands professions without ever leveling up basic Mining or Herbalism.
You need to pick up Shadowlands herbalism/mining in Oribos to start gaining levels from SL herb/ore nodes.
The 1/300 is considered as Classic herbalism/mining, which only applies to nodes in Kalimdor/EK (that are also not Cataclysm zones).
