Can we not use the control shard to instantly use gateway after casting it anymore? I used to be able to cast gateway and then instantly use it (this was in dragonflight). Now every time I try to use it it says “You can’t use that yet” and it won’t let me cast until like 1 second after gateway is put down.
Sometimes it’s due to LoS being weird.
It’s not a line of sight issue. Try and do it literally anywhere, and it won’t cast instantly.

Not sure other than latency issues then. 
Only time I have failed shard uses while placing a straight instant gateway is whenever I lag.
Works for me fine, OP. I cast the portal then instantly click the one in front of me and go orbing.
The only time I get that error you’re describing is when I’m crossing the Z axis trying weird things.
I’m not talking about clicking, I’m talking about the gateway shard item.
Placing isn’t the issue, instantly using the gateway is (specifically using the “Gateway Control Shard” item). Edit: I might have misread your comment the first time.
EDIT: Also, just because YOU specifically don’t have an issue, doesn’t mean there isn’t a problem.
