Gatekeeping is annoying

So I rejoined the game a bit ago. I’m a fan of alchemy. I’ve got a lot of rare recipes. And I was excited to make the trinkets. Well guess what? I can’t… At least, not any alchemical trinket worth mentioning. Why? Because I need to run Battle for Azeroth in order to get mats, and almost NO ONE is running that now! Why? Gatekeeping!

I can’t fly in BFA. Why? Gatekeeping.

I’m able to grind some things like few others. I finally got Arthas to poop out his mount (Invincible) after more than a decade. But I find endless questing tedious. An MMO, for me, is about playing with other people. Dungeons and raids and even battlegrounds are repetitive, but I enjoy them.

In Mists, we were able to get flight after some work, but it wasn’t crazy like this.

And I still want to be able to use my profession to its maximum… It feels like I ought to be able to trade expulsom for the breath mats if I need to. Why won’t they allow this???

Pathfinder thread?

Well, also the fact that expulsom is a stupid mat. I believe they meant battle for dazaralor.

If you’re an enchanter, you would need the sanguine w/e from there to transmute expulsom. It’s probably the best source for it if there’s no CD. but nobody runs that place anymore.

And most probably wouldn’t be able to clear it anyways if we’re talking pugs that never even ran the raid when it was current.

I think they want to craft something that requires mats from there so…

Professions are in a rough patch. Expulsom can die in a fire, and the stuff that drops in raid should seriously be BoE so it can be sold on the AH. That way those who have dual gathering professions have a use for them, and people who don’t raid can get them without having to do a raid no one does anymore.

Beyond that, making it so each expansion has its own level has improved the pacing a little bit. That was a good change that they spat on with how they were handled this expansion. I seriously hope they take a look at professions going into Shadowlands.

Pathfinder is a non-issue, especially now with how easy the reps are to grind since they’re all in the game. The main issue with it is the fact that there’s a year long wait between Part One and Part Two.

I’m not 100% what you’re talking about because you seem to have changed subjects multiple times in a single post but I am fairly confident that you have no idea what gatekeeping is.

Wow needs people to play on a consistent basis (I.e. stay subbed). If they did anything to encourage part time subscriptions it would make for an untenable business model.

Part time subscribers should feel some pain.

They require you to do X or have Y-number of widgets in order to get Z.

To some degree, it’s useful and even fun. Like, the questlines to get certain attunements and such. The important factor is: people should generally be able to do it at ANY time. It should not be set up in such a way that you intentionally disadvantage players who:
· Don’t have a regular raid team. Either because life is busy, or general circumstances. (I see less raiding now that I’m Alliance. That was more prevalent with the Horde in my experience)
· Jumped in a tad later in the xpac. Came back to the game, and are now getting crapped on for doing so.

Blizzard tied these things to a specific raid which isn’t being run anymore on any real basis. While PUGs have next to no capability to succeed.

Blizzard demands an extremely detailed process in order to get flight. And I’ve seen polling which says the majority of its customers are annoyed by this. Blizzard has seemed to have this thing where they want to make you go through content which isn’t immediately relevant at that moment. (“We did all this hard work to make this. We’re gonna make you ride through it,” and similar things.)

The best games allow people to come at a challenge through more than one approach. Maybe they’d prefer questing all day. Maybe they like dailies. Maybe they are fans of Dungeons. Imagine if flight were simply tied to becoming at least revered with every faction in the current xpac. It would require work but it wouldn’t kill you as much.
