The whole point of player housing is to choose a plot of land in the world with full/unlockable customisation that only serves as a cosmetic addition to the game.
It seems people get dissuaded by the idea because they feel it would lead to more Garrisons which is NOT the case. I believe having a player house gives more identity and customisation to the character which is sorely needed in the game.
On an unrelated note: Good job Blizzard on adding more customisation options for characters in Shadowlands, looking forward to it!
I honestly donât believe that anyone is laboring under the assumption that Garrisons were supposed to be player housing. Blizz never said that, players donât think that, so ⊠yeah.
They mentioned at Blizzcon that player housing, if it was implemented, would be a âexpansion-levelâ addition. Itâs probably on the table post-WoD and their waiting for a opportunity to add it in that makes sense.
Garrisons were a interesting experiment thatâs evolved and been in every expansion since in the form of things like Class Halls, the Mission Table, and soon Covenants. Hopefully Blizzards next take on housing is more fun than practical.
I thought garrisons wouldâve worked better if it was the entire server building a huge base and donating supplies. And then after the main base was built players would then have the option to build their own little plot/land/house inside the base.
Garrisons = alpha test for future player housing idea.
Youâd think that, but in almost every thread asking for player housing at least one person says âBlizz tried housing already. Itâs called a garrison.â Thereâs a bunch of anti-player housing people. They use that or go play The Sims to try to shoot down the idea.
OK, fair enough, but in any thread I usually ignore the blatantly ridiculous stuff. At least I try to. No one is ever going to get everyone to understand anything.
If player housing is ever added, there will be a single instanced plot in Stormwind for Alliance and a plot in Orgrimmar for Horde. Everyone will have their own instance and no one else will be able to see your house.
There is no way Blizzard will let us pick a plot anywhere in the game or show it off.
Yeah I donât bother with the go play Sims peeps. I play the Sims and it has nothing to do with player housing that is found in rpgs lol
Itâd be nice to have neighborhoods like FF does. I wonder if part of the reason we donât have housing in WoW yet is they canât decide what kind of space to give us.
Maybe they thought they had given us Player Housing. That is exactly how they introduced Garrisons at Blizzcon before WOD. They arenât the same but someone at Blizzard thought they were.
Never got out of the main starting area in FF so I donât know what neighborhoods that youâre talking about. However, customization is not something Blizzard really cares about. Even if they are adding more options 15 years after the release of the game.

There are instanced neighborhoods in the 3 original zones and I think 1 or 2 of the zones that were added in expansions (havenât played in awhile so not sure). You can actually go look around other peopleâs houses if they allow visitors. And thereâs an area in the middle with a guy that sells land deeds and a few other vendors (canât remember what they sell), a mailbox ⊠that might be it in the open area. Beautiful views - each neighborhood is very scenic.
Wanna know how to solve the player housing issue? Give each player their own personal housing unit item think of it like the TARDIS
We use the item and it creates a small structure that resembles an outhouse sized building with an instance portal and when we enter the internal dimesions will be equal in size to one of those 2 story inns with basement or one of those keeps
Either way itd contain enough space for a permanent thermal anvil a personal banker bot as well as a repair shop/trade goods vendor

I dunno, I like the Garrison personally. Itâs a nice safe place to go AFK/park yourself without getting bothered by other players. Itâs an âextraâ hearthstone too, so thatâs also nice.
