Garrisons already serve a player housing purpose for many so

Revisiting them just a little could have a big impact for a lot of players. I even make one and max it out after all of this time if I make an alt. Use them every day. Bank, repair, check mail, battle pet vendor etc. Hearthstone makes that very appealing particularly if you have 2 because you did the shipyard. I can’t imagine it would take much work to just show them some love. It would also pipe down a lot of calls for housing. Just a thought.

The problem is, garrisons aren’t on Azeroth, so they don’t count as real player housing to anybody,

I mean the lore is very important here, imagine if in Final Fantasy 14 you didn’t have player housing on the Source but only in the alternate dimension called The First, that would just be so weird and make no sense at all,

This is why we need to stop saying the lore and story is trash,

It MATTERS, therefore where you have your house does matter very, very much…

The main setting of this game is on the planet AZEROTH, not Draenor (that in lore is a dying planet anyway), not the Shadowlands, not Outland…

See, the majority of expansions have taken place on Azeroth, Classic, Wrath, Cata, MOP, LEGION, BFA, and now Dragonflight.

Only BC, WoD, and Shadowlands have taken place in alternate worlds/dimensions.

The point is, Azeroth is our home, so Azeroth is where real player housing should be, now don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate the alternate Draenor, in fact I think it’s a beautiful place, but that doesn’t change the fact that Azeroth is home to all of us,

Revisiting garrisons therefore would just infuriate me and would make me ask myself why in God’s name don’t we have housing on Azeroth which is the main setting for this game??

Honestly, there is plenty of potential right now for REAL player housing for the Horde players in the lore…

-With us Forsaken characters, as we take back the Undercity, and rebuild Brill and surrounding areas, there’s plenty of land for us to use in the Tirisfal Glades for new housing

-Silvermoon could finally use a bit of upgrading after all this time for elves

-There’s an entire fortress beneath Org for orcs and whatnot last I checked

-Trolls and most Horde Allied races don’t matter as much as they live in huts mostly anyway, only Nightborne are fussy.

As for the Alliance and their races, well I think the Worgens are getting Gilneas as the new capital, and Tyrande is going to grow a new World Tree somewhere, so…there’s a lot of potential there.

Dark Irons already have their mountain underground, and so many empty houses in Ironforge too. As for humans, they could just have a phased area somewhere in the mountains of Elwynn Forest…

There’s so much potential here for REAL player housing, but the important thing to remember is that the main setting for WoW is AZEROTH…

But you know what else, even a house on Outland I would find less offensive then housing on Draenor, because Outland is still connected to our main timeline, but Alternate Draenor isn’t…

Okay I rest my case.

The point of player housing isn’t to have your own place to bank, repair, check mail, vendor etc… it’s to have a house that’s your own that you can decorate how you want and invite people over to and make you feel like you have a special place in the world, with other real-life players next door. Everything the garrisons are not. Also it sucks having them on Draenor. Yeah you have a Garrison hearth, but then you have to find your way back to wherever you want to go and it’s literally on a different planet in an alternate timeline, so that sucks.

at this point i don’t think anyone would care where housing is as long as the get it for the ones who want it. give up on lore arguments cross faction tauren rogues soon anyone be anything and yes we had expansion not on azeroth get over it.

Garrisons went too far. We want a house, not our own town.

I think the garrison technology could be used to create player housing.

But players didn’t get a house. They got a garrison. We couldn’t place furniture or even have builds/items to make it race theme.
Garrisons were Orc theme or human theme.

Amazing how the OP does not understand what player housing is. Lilithia said it best why Garrisons are not player housing for WoW.

The technology involved could place a building with fully customizable features just about anywhere. Your friends could visit you there. There could be a portal in every major city that goes right to your home. You could have a “back door” that would allow you to step out into the countryside.

Garrisons are not player housing.

They’re modular all-in-one crafting/gathering centers, and sadly, they’re already obsolete because Blizzard never carries anything over from expansion to expansion.

New World is a better examples of an MMO with player housing, although I’d prefer a more builder-style sandbox mode where you can construct, brick by brick, your own fortress in any style you want. Something like what Valheim has.

Design you own house/fortress.
Add usable furniture.
Storage.
Trophies and decorations that offer buffs.

No, we need real player housing. Not something time locked in a pocket dimension that’s already collapsed and that can’t be expanded to include decorations.

What we need is housing like Old Republic’s.

The same technology that built players a workplace/personal quest hub could be used to create player housing. To create something entirely new is far less likely to happen.

Is this the flavor of the month water cooler topic?

It comes up every few months.

Yeah but it’s been cropping up more than a few times already this week

The Garrision engine/model is too bland though. There’s no customization with anything except where you want to put the cookie-cutter buildings.

Everything has a preset placement and models. It’s rather lame.

Every few months there is a cluster of threads insisting that players need something that is never going to happen, people fantasizing about what can never happen with this development team.

Garrisons, Class Halls, and Covenants… At least in your garrison you had professions, tables for mission, portal to your main village, mounted interactions (if you had a stable level 3) an auctioneer if you reconstructed it, an Inn, and a flight path. True player housing is a small cottage or hutt in the major city, set in an instance (like the garrison) where a new profession would be useful (Woodcrafter/Lumberjack) for characters to chop down wood and build their own furniture and allow up to 25 visitors at a time. It would be less of what we have already, and more like Strongholds in SWTOR. There is a fortune to be made in the cash shop if Blizz made and sold decos the same way Star Wars does, and people could decorate their houses/huts to suit their persona.
