Hey all, title says everything. Need a new laptop and want something high end for gaming. Currently looking at the Razer Blade 15 but was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions. Looking for something that can handle high end games with high graphics. Heavily modded Skyrim/Fallout, Baldur’s Gate 3, Elden Ring, Cyberpunk, etc. Trying to find something that will be able to perform with minimal to no lag.
Before the inevitable is said: I have a desktop. I need something for travel though. Thanks everyone!
No. Around the year, year and a half mark they start making horrid sounds because dust bunnies are trapped in them. It doesn’t matter if you blast 'em with canned air regularly (which I did) because their design so bad that you can’t get them out. Go watch a YouTube video on how to replace them then you’ll do the same thing I did, which was take it to Microcenter. There was no way I was going to navigate that minefield.
My husband and I owned 4 or 5 MSI laptops between us and had nothing but problems with the fans. And before you ask “why did you keep buying the same laptop over and over?” We didn’t. We purchased the extended warranty from Best Buy and after repairing the fans so many times, they just gave us a new laptop.
Not sure how much power is needed to run those games smoothly, but I bought two of these for my daughters this past Christmas and they play tons of games on theirs and have no complaints. They’re also bigger with a 17" screen. They’ve only had them about 7 months but no issues with battery life or anything so far. And about a grand less than the Razer.
Good advice to hear - I’m in the market for a new system too. I’m too lazy to do a pre-built PC, I’ve done so in the past and honestly I’m over it. So looking for a prebuilt or a laptop.
But I have quite a few pets, Dogs and Cats. I need something that can handle dust, or at least allow me to clean it out. So I may have to avoid MSI. But whats the alternatives? ROG? Acer? Razer? AlienWare?
I’ve heard good, but also bad things about all of them.
Thank you for reminding me. I do have three dogs so my house does shorten the life span of my fans but I tried to compensate for that by blasting it with air on a regular basis.
But yeah I want a new laptop too. Even though MSI runs games beautifully, I’m just completely done with this fan situation. I actually had really good luck with AlienWares but I moved away from them because of the cost. I might go back because their fans never screeched at me.
There’s only one issue with them that’s actually not really an issue. A ton of the bad reviews on there say they got theirs dead out of the box. Most of the bad reviews.
But people have replied to many of them with the solution. You have to push kind of hard to get the wall charger to snap in. That’s literally it. lol
And it’s funny because that exact thing happened to my youngest. She was like “mine won’t come on” and that’s the first thing I did because I’d read the reviews, and I heard a small click and it came right on. lol
That’s another weird thing about MSI computers: they put the charger on the right side of the computer, so you hit it with your mouse. Never figured out why they would do that.
I have 3 cats and an Alienware M14xR2 that I bought in 2013. I have it on a Cooler Master pad which also helps catch cat hair. It is now, after 9 years, starting to freeze the system for a few seconds when the fan kicks in/out. I did clean it, but I suspect it needs more than I can do, and after 9.5 years, I think it might be time to get another computer.
Yep. I game and do everything else on a snack table in my living room. Small amount of space and of course I can just pack it up and take it anywhere.
This looks like an almost direct replacement for mine… Hnnnnngggggg
I would want the 1TB SSD though
P.S. I do have a desktop in my office that is made from hand me down parts some lovely friends gave me. It will run Dragonflight, but just barely. The GTX970 in it will still play it. But then I am stuck in my office… OR I have to move the desk and all the gear downstairs which means it would feel cluttery in the living room.
I like to game when I travel, plus gaming laptops are typically better for length of life and for running data analysis (or at least I was told with the data analysis part)
I have no idea! Honestly the only upgrade I did to it was to put a larger SSD in. Nothing else has been touched. It has been knocked to the floor by cats twice. No issues. No maint or repairs ever.
I do take care of it and keep it on an active cooling pad so it does not have heating issue. This thing has honestly been amazing and I love love love it. Which is good seeing as I paid a fair bit for it back in 2013. I feel like the value I got for that money has been incredible though.
Oh, and I almost never turn it off. I just close it and let it sleep at night. You would think that would harm it, but no.
I had wanted an Alienware since the company was independent. When Dell bought them I was skeptical but got one anyway when I had the finances to do so.
I think what helped was that I got mid-top of the line at the time, not a bottom bargain level machine. That meant it has weathered the gaming market and tech changes pretty well.
