What is most important to you when searching for a good gaming desktop? Durability, Stability, Length, Depth? I hear about SecretLab Desks and Arozzi being really good desks to get? what desks have done well for you? i only use 1 monitor if that makes a difference
Depends what you need in a desk. If you don’t want to read ramblings flexispot sit stand desk 48 x 30 inch and an IKEA Bekant desk.
I used my desk to work/eat/game.
I also pace around when I work. So the sit stand desk is a god send for me.
When I was in college and the first few years afterwards I was using a generic desk sometimes a foldable table.
Nowadays just a sit stand desk that fits my work space. Depth is probably the most important thing for me.
Depends on your needs. I have to have an L desk in order to also accommodate my work setup
Its just for gaming, nothing else
What exactly are you asking for?
If you have a store like IKEA go try it out. No one really knows what works for you except you.
I use a Bombay Stanton desk, turned it into a sit stand style desk but rarely actually use it while standing. Has 3 drawers on each side and was the best price of free.
Now if I had to buy a new desk I dunno what I would go with but most gaming desks I see look ok with hooks or cup holders but still look like a sheet of wood. Yuck
All of the above. The problem with buying desks these days is that while you can buy a cheap desk, you get a cheap desk. MFP or w/e it’s called is the cheaper cousin of particle board which itself is already the cheaper cousin of wood. Problem? MFP ages poorly, and is basically the single use plastic of wood products. Modifying it is difficult if you want to do things like drill holes for cables, the material itself isn’t very strong so you probably don’t want to do things like directly mount VESA mounts on it. Also, it hates water. And because how it is used is more important than the material itself you do get situations like the Ikea desks that had noticeable bends in the frame after a few years of use.
That said, SecretLab does appear to know what they’re doing. If money were no object and I didn’t mind getting nickel and dimed with add-ins like that gaming mat I’d probably buy one.
If I wanted a good desk that’d be heirloom tier quality I’d probably buy flats of hardwood from one of the manufacturers who just sell desk sized flats and go from there.
i only use 1 monitor if that makes a difference
I would absolutely look into trying a two-monitor setup. Unless you’re using one of those ultra-wide monitors.
This is what I go for too.
For my latest desk, I got a standing L-desk desk from Fully. Its bamboo top surface is decent and should last reasonably well, but even if it starts bowing after a few years, its frame is heavy enameled steel which will be good for decades to come, so I can just get some wooden countertop (butcher block is nice) from Home Depot cut to size and boom I’ve got a new top that will last even longer than the original. I don’t think I’ll need to replace this desk for the foreseeable future.
I don’t use its standing feature super often, but it makes the desk’s height easily adjustable which is great for fine-tuning my setup for comfort and ergonomics, and should I choose to give it to someone else at some point down the road they’ll be able to make it work better with their setup too.
“Gaming” desk or chair. Total scam. Office ones can get the job done as well.
I like IKEA’s options. I’ve had my desk from them going on 10 years and it’s a beast!
i bought one of them cheap gaming desk from amazon. so far so good. keep it clean and don’t expose them to extremes. it’s like 63x25 so having space is awesome
I have 2 desks (1 for gaming, 1 for work in a different room). Desk I use for gaming is one I got from Amazon around 5 or 6 years ago. It’s made out of particle board but has held up just fine. Other desk that I use for work is from Ikea, but I’ve only had it about a year so can’t say yet if it will hold up super long but so far, so good.
My biggest advice would be to get more room than you think you need (if you have the space). My desk I use for gaming is pretty standard size, around 45" or so, I forget how much exactly, and I have dual monitors. It feels like barely enough room. My work desk is almost twice the length iirc and I’ve got…dual monitors, keyboard & mouse, a laptop, and a big monstera (plant) and still feel like I’ve got room. It’s way better and I wish that my gaming desk were bigger
Oh yeah also on the topic of solid/real wood vs. MDF- consider the weight. My bf has a solid wood desk and the thing is SUPER heavy. It’s a pain to move. Looks nice though
Agree, bigger is almost always better for desks so long as you have the space to fit it.
A big factor for me is that I like to keep my tower on my desk, both because my bedroom has carpet (which can impede airflow) and because the front filter collects dust about 3x more quickly when it’s sitting on the floor. Even though it’s a “compact” case (Meshify 2 Compact), that’s still about 8"x16" of surface area taken up.
On that note, VESA mount monitor arms help a LOT for reclaiming desk space. It’s so nice to have my monitors floating above my desk with no huge monitor stand foot eating up prime real estate — I have a nice dual-layer shelf sitting there instead.
To clarify, I’ve got the IKEA Bekant, going on 10 years and I plan on adding another for when I get my PC gaming rig up and running!
Not cheap, but its great!
