I’m sure this has been discussed before, but can we PLEASE have gamepad/controller support promoted to something at least approximating kbm?
As an older gamer, I have difficulty using kbm for gaming. I recently tried getting a MMO gaming mouse and almost immediately I’d start having pains in my elbow and feeling my hand and forearm tingle and go numb.
I’m coming from FF14 where controller support can often be clunky, but it’s entirely possible to play the entire game without ever once touching a kbm. Bonus points if the WoW developers want to make the controller experience better, but at this point I’d take clunky over PITA to set up and still requires kbm for some key functions. You’ve already done the bulk of the hard work in adding controller support in the 9.x series, so now it’s just a matter of finishing what was already started.

Blizzard added controller support so you don’t have to run a weird key forwarding 3rd party program to make it work. But you’ll still want an addon like this to make it a reasonable experience.
I raided Heroic for a week back in Legion with this and it worked well. Obviously not something I’d personally want to use as my main way to play, but I ran it just to see if it’d work and it did. More than suffices for casual play.

10/10 addon would recommend.
I’ve tried ConsolePort – I didn’t want to mention it before on the outside chance it was one of those ban-worthy things like in FF14 – and I can get about 80-85% of the way there, but it falls apart when it comes to things like accepting quests, turning in quests, interacting with NPCs, managing inventory, and a lot of other more “administrative” things. For just straight up mob slaughter it’s quite capable, but for everything else… not so much.
Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the effort that goes into it, but it’s a band-aid on a bullet wound solution. There are just so many little instances where a button may pull multiple duties for different contexts. If I have an Xbox controller, I may want the B button to close dialog boxes, prompt to skip cut scenes, close open menus, and also be usable for binding actions to. This is something that really needs to be addressed by the game developers. And again, they’ve already done the hard part of adding support into the game engine, now they just need to connect it to the UI.
Edit:
Just wanted to follow up on this in case someone else comes along later. The immersion mod picks up where ConsolePort leaves off and now instead of maybe 80% it’s more like 95%. There’s still some things you more or less need to use a mouse for, like skill trees and managing inventory/equipment – you can technically do this with a controller, but it’s not a pleasant experience – but at least IMO, it’s not that big a deal. There are still a few edge cases that are kind of annoying, and it’s not as seamless as it would be if Blizzard was serious about supporting controllers, but you can do about 95% of things in game with just the controller as easily, or maybe even more easily, than kbm which is certainly “good enough” by my standards.
With any luck, Microsoft will hire the ConsolePort and Immersion devs to help revamp the WOW interface to be more console friendly. Probably wishful thinking, but who knows.
