Game/Apps minimizing themselves to dekstop suddenly please help

(Already posted in tech support too but im desperate)

Hey guys - so this problem has started this week out of the blue - essentially whenever im playing WOW the game with randomly and without any reason minimize itself and send me to the desktop - I do not have any frame loss or freezes or anything i can just, alt tab or click on wow and bring it back up in an instant like nothing happened other than the disruption itself which is so so frustrating.

It does NOT seem to, thank god, do it with any other game but now its starting to happen outside the game just in menus and such and i am a COMPLETE Loss of what could be doing this. This seems to only happen when im clicking (I unplugged my keyboard to see if that was the issue, still happened) - if im idle no problems at all. I can run a dungeon and have nothing at all happen, or run a dungeon and it happen several times in a row.

Windows is as far as I can tell fully up to date - did a full windows defender scan no issues - I just updated my graphics driver problem started both before and persisted after update - completely reset WTF/CACHE/interface - I play in windowed mode, tried even going to windowed fullscreen with no change, still happened - turned off all addons/weakauras - changed DX11/12 - set graphics to low - I only use one monitor - only wow and discord running - turned off game mode in windows settings - disabled any and all overlays i could think of discord included - i’ve run multiple scan and repair on wow - nothing works!- admnistrative event view does not tell me anything is happening or what not, im at a complete loss please help

Are you accidentally hitting a ‘windows’ button on your keyboard (easy to do if you think you’re pressing ctrl and a finger is in the wrong spot)? Or do you use the ‘alt’ button for any of your keybindings?

No and i even completely turned off the keyboard and it still happens with clicks, it only seems to happen with clicking

Do you have any game overlay you’re using with wow?

And is anything consistent at all? IE: always happens when you’re clicking a specific spot or section on the screen?

Edit: Also, are you running windowed or full screen?

I don’t believe i have any overlays none that i can see anyway, i disabled discords, and i only have discord/wow running most of the time - no other programs or apps - and it is definitely only when click from what i can see surface level - and no it seems to be just clicks period

I run in windowed mode, I also tried yesterday to run in fullscreen and it still did it

I had that with the new Discord overlay.
I completely turned it off, change WoW setting from “Window” to “Full Screen” and then back, and it helped.

I appreciate you posting, i disabled anything overlay i could find for discord and i don’t have anything else that does overlays that i can tell - I can try full screen again but as of yesterday the problem was the same even in fullscreen

Yeah, I saw your message right before mine.
I wish I could help, but outside of repairing WoW and making sure that Bnet closes itself when you launch a game, I can’t think of anything else.

Does it happen with any other games? have you tried any others since the problem started with wow, and have you seen a similar behavior in any of them?

Thank you so much for continuing to help me - it does not seem to affect any other games thank god - played a couple hours ona steam game this morning and zero issues knock on wood

Do you have D4 or any other blizzard game showing any of this weirdness?

This came up on a google, not sure if any of it might help you:

Games keep minimizing to desktop - Microsoft Community

I at this time do not play any other wow games - i very strongly suspect it is a Bent/Wow issue because i don’t SEEM to have any problems when neither are running but i cannot state that for certain as I do not know just what i think might be the issue, and im not sure what could possibly have changed this week other than Bnet/wow updates - and as stated i have run several scan/repairs and did a complete wtf/cache/interface reset with no effect

Hrm. I’m running out of ideas then. It’s bugging me a bit that it’s only on clicking and at random spots and times.

There’s a video I’m eyeballing on it that has a couple of more options, but… Can’t say I’m optimistic about it.

If you exit out of discord, like - right click on little icon at the far bottom right, and hit ‘quit discord’ … Can you make the bug still happen?

(And yeah, I caught what you said about possibly it being bnet/wow specific), just wanting to eliminate possibilities.

I believe it still happens even when discord is closed but i will do more testing and see if it changes ill try to update tomorrow.

I really appreciate you trying, i have no idea what could possibly have happened/changed this week to cause something like this out of the blue so i appreciate any input.

Not just closed, but, fully exited. Little discord icon not existing at the bottom right’s list of icons when you hit the up arrow.

Right yes - even when fully not running/active/open i do believe it still happens but i will keep working to test it and reply again tomorrow

Some things else maybe to try as well, is seeing if you can force it just by running around the world. No clicking outside of movement.

Hang out at say the target dummies, and then try spam clicking your abilities specifically (that region of the screen) and see if anything happens.

Later, try pointing your mouse up at the top of your screen, and spam click random air. Left and right clicks. Then, try each side, and see if anything happens.

Also, one more question I might have… Do you often/have you ever seen windows alerts, messages, or even just general ad spam show up? Have you ever seen one and then suddenly had wow downsize?

So to start with the easiest no notifications or pop ups or anything, and as per other suggestions i’ve even turned notifications off and DND mode on to see if it helped - and i will try to run around tomorrow without using the mouse at all and see and will include that in my update - thank you lots - im almost thinking at this point to try and uninstall and reinstall wow/bnet completely but…

Maybe worth an attempt at least, though make sure to save your addons, wtf, and screenshot folders somewhere before doing so just in case there’s stuff there you want kept.

Edit: Yeah, I figured the notifications thing wasn’t going to be it, given the list of things you’ve already tried matches at least a few of the articles/videos I’ve been checking.
