Game Years Vs. Dog Years

As a general rule, “they” say that one year for us beings is approximately 7 for a dog.

Along those lines of thought, how many “MMO” years fit into a single being year? Taking the speed at which technology advances in IT/Tech/Computers into consideration.

In my head, WoW is some where near “80” in MMO years. A spry 80, but 80.

the year metric though is a a relative reff for the rate of aging. its not like you could learn any more in 1 dog year than a normal year. like time is still moving by at the same pace but the biological clock is aging at a different rate.

so with that in mind. you would have to find the average life span of an mmo and calculate how that relates to the average life span of a human to get a similar comparison.

and then you have to eliminate any outlier mmos that just died young and not consider that to be part of the average.

“how long can an mmo live”

and that doesnt even take into account what sort of beast each mmo is.

like some might be may fly (i think thats the right bug) mmos the really only live a day (launch) and that it.

and others are like Dragons… they just live forever so long as no one goes out and slays them. (and there are a few mmos that have been around since the don of who knows when.)

so what is WoW? is it a Dragon? a Dog? an Alligator? how advanced is it in its years?

WoW is prob very young. it might actually be closer to human years because it keeps growing and changing. it still doesn’t really know what it wants to be when it grows up.

it has its phases and has its limitations but those limitations are offset by constant exercise and practice.

so i would say wow is like a 18-21 year old. its just old enough that it can start standing on its own and isn’t quite so limited by what its parents wanted or taught them.

maybe it will soon get its own home and we will finally have player housing.

Dragonflight is like that first step into the open freedom of having your own mount that can go Zooom.

the game is still evolving which means its far from getting on in years.

other MMOs might last a long time but they have aged beyond in years. they only live because they have support. and others still only because they went onto life support by a few who refuse to let it die.

WoW is about 12.
