Friend is having issues starting his game. Was playing with me yesterday normally, and today he turned on his computer, and whenever he clicks on “Play” on WoW (from the launcher) nothing happens.
He has rebooted, updated video drivers, renamed the folders “Interface”, “Cache”, and “Wtf”, opened launcher as Administrator, but none of that worked. When he clicks on “Play”, the button changes to “Launching” and then goes back to “Play”. If he opens Task Manager there will be multiple instances of World of Warcraft which he manually closes. He also has Hearthstone installed and that one does work. The button in settings to “Scan and Repair” appears greyed out so he can’t click it.
If it’s still happening after that maybe there’s something running in the background that is preventing WoW.exe from running properly. Try Selective Startup
Press Windows Key + R .
Type msconfig and press Enter .
Select Selective startup and uncheck Load startup items .
Select the Services tab.
Check Hide all Microsoft services . Note : Skipping this step may prevent your computer from rebooting correctly.
Tried the above and game gets stuck in a loop - its says update → initializing but then starts scanning and the scan goes wrong at the end. : BLZBNTAGT00000BB8 - i have no AV runnin atm on a hardwired connection which is runnin fine and repair tool is stuck on that errorcode.
UPDATE: none of the aforementioned tips will work if it gets stuck in the update/scan repair cycle - DO NOT SCAN/REPAIR because it will get you stuck in a loop, play will never show up and the update will never happen → https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEQ-PpSKF80
I went ahead and did a clean install but that vid essentially does the same but will take less time/data to download.
