I submitted a ticket about this to customer support and was given a copy-pasted answer. The troubleshooting guide I was sent to did not cover this specific issue, and I’ve tried each of the steps listed regardless. I’m at a loss. Here’s the ticket I submitted:
“When I press play in the Battle.net launcher the game doesn’t start. It also doesn’t start when I open the .exe file directly. I’ve restarted my computer twice, checked my graphics drivers, and uninstalled and reinstalled both the game and Battle.net. The game also doesn’t appear in task manager. The “scan and repair” option in the settings wheel next to the play button is also grayed out.”

I’m in the same boat, it also seems to be on you clicked played btw, which is why you can’t scan and repair cause of that.
Security software? Sophos? Need to add the WoW directories and *.exes. They are essentially “new software” after patches.

This was also brought up in Tech Forum Yesterday. Myself and more than 20 others Complaining about this problem. Its been more than 13 hrs since this was posted and no info from Blizzard about it!!! Some people, very few, have had success by checking their Anti Virus for any restrictions it might have put on the game and or Battle.net.
I STILL cannot log into the Game. Worst part is I just did a 6 month renewal…LOL
Settings in Battle.net App has Scan and Repair, Check for Updates and Uninstall GREYED OUT. You cannot click on them…

This worked after I added the game + launcher and rebooted my computer. Thank you so much!
EDIT: Nevermind. The game opened once and won’t open again. God damn it.
There are no tech support staff in this forum anymore, it’s a player-to-player discussion. Plus, Blizzard isn’t likely to comment on an issue involving opening software on your computer, since that is policed by Windows and your own security settings. They have nothing to do with that.
Perhaps a small update applied, or the area where settings are being saved for the security software has corrupted permissions. Reach out to the developers of the security software.
Thank you for the advice, I fully uninstalled my antivirus and was able to get the game to boot up. I think you’re right and something got corrupted.

Okay. I finally gave up trying all the other suggestions I’ve read about and any Video’s I’ve watched. What finally worked, I uninstalled my Avast Anti-Virus and the Game loaded just fine. My 'paid" subscription to Avast was about to expire anyways, might try the Free version, or just Hope Windows Defender can do the job…hope this helps someone…cheers
