Game takes an eternity to launch

I press the PLAY button on Battle.net and the game simply does not launch. However, if open the task manager, I can see the WoW process running. If I press the PLAY button multiple times, there will be multiples WoW instances running… After some time, that ranges from 1-2 minutes up to 20, all of those windowns open at the same time.

I’ve got this problem for at least 3 years, it happens sporadically, every once in a while. It super annoying, I’ve already missed a few raids and such because of it… No matter what I do, the game opens only at its pace: closing with the task manager does nothing, relaunching Battle.net does nothing, restarting the computer does nothing…

I have nothing on my PC besides WoW and Office lol, so no background applications that might be interfering. Also, my hardware is pretty overkill for WoW, so I do not think that’s the reason.

Searching on the internet, a lot of people seem to have the same problem; none of the many suggestions I saw worked.

Please, help.

In Battle.net menu.
Find switch that tells Battle.net to close when launching the Game, or leave the Battle.net open when starting if you already did that.
Also never update switch… Change back after you get this worked out.

Some cards also have a hard time building the background…they take time to build that file, but the next time should be normal.

Try DX11 to see if the issue is DX12…

The GPU software has also caused this to happen.

You do not have a photo on the post, might not be the issue, but…
Try logging into the top level of Battle.net here on the Forum with the big blue BLIZZARD icon. Log in there then restart battle.net app on your computer.

Hogwash , i think i am getting bad site preferences from websites i visit. The britsh news website always guarantees me a 10 minute launch. I have noticed sometimes on semi long launches , battle.net updater is running. In those cases the second updater goes off, wow starts. I am on an windows 10 machine that is a few years old with mechanical HD, so that probably doesn’t help.
It could be some kind of adware from the news site running in background, but I haven’t seen anything show up for it on taskmaster.

Yes that would do what you say.
Minium system is with a SSD now.

Regardless, ctrl/alt / del - taskmaster, look and see if Bnet updater is running. bet you 5 bucks it is. When it goes off " Poof’ wow starts.

Still happens when you tell Battle.net to close when starting the game?
And to never auto update…

Is that in game settings? I never tried it? would that not eventually give you a " not compatible ’ error over time?

I have win 10 pro … had a restart update for windows.
now first boot Battle.net will not start…
Right clicking and run as administrator launched battle.net
about 1 min later I an on Vurtin …
going fishing…
