I would personally like to see Blizzard invest in character customization for what they already have going in terms of races. My suggestion is to have an option to make a custom face like in other MMO’s, but you can still use the standard preset ones if you want too. This would be a lot of work on Blizzard’s part, as there are about 18 races. Some of these are duplicated, like tauren, orcs, thalassian elves, all dwarves, worgen/human, draenei/lightforged. So from my count, around 18. That’s a lot of races, so a lot of faces to make customizable. Plus you have to consider gender, so that’s 36.
In my opinion, this is worth the investment because people will not give up on this game, and it would be awesome to have some kind of customizable option so that you don’t see the limited number of repeat faces all the time. Some of them don’t even look good so are rarely used. Even if this was simple like, eyes, nose, mouth, that would be great! We already have that to an extent, just wish it could be taken further. Anyone have any other ideas?

I appreciate this post, as it’s absolutely correct, and tackles what I’ve always thought to be the heart of the issue. I actually found myself changing races the other day, and one of the reasons was that… it just got boring. It can be difficult to find the customization features that set one apart, indeed, especially amongst the game races you mentioned. I encourage anyone interested to look at the shear amount of character customization available in Final Fantasy XIV and Guild Wars 2 (hint: it’s really a lot!) And, of course, it’s not just faces: hairstyles & haircolours, eyes… I think the Dracthyr are a step in the right direction, but I also think there are some cases of direct regression (e.g. Cata-Alpha Worgen vs release version). The TL;DR is that depth of customization allows the player to pick and choose an appearance to their liking, to make their characters unique and express… character
Definitely, I have some maxed out legendary characters on gw2 and that game is like fantasia, you can look however you want there are almost limitless possibilities because not only are there sliders for everything, but you can dye your armor too.
I appreciate the advancements WoW has made in this area with more options, but it’s still super lacking which makes sense because the game is old. I don’t see why they can’t implement some kind of slider system for faces and even height. Wouldn’t have to be much but would make a huge difference. Just seems to me they invest too much into story but not into the actual game for the players.
