Game stops responding

While doing content out in zones, but mostly in dungeons, my game just stops responding and it will sit there on the not responding screen for a good minute before it lets me continue.
This has only started since Shadowlands.
I have tried repair, resetting WTF and cache, reinstalled drivers, played with no addons and low graphic settings and it still happens.
I checked to make sure nothing is overheating, which its not.
No other games are having issues, I sat in Red Dead 2 online for hours with friends.

My pc is ~ 4790k cpu, GTX Titan X graphics card, 32gb of ram and Wow is on an SSD with plenty of space.

Hey there Skyacer,

We appreciate you taking the time to reach out with these details! Since the freezing hasn’t been affected by the steps you’ve tried thus far nor configuring in-game settings, try closing any potentially conflicting programs/applications by disabling startup items with the steps below. Before trying the steps below, please close unnecessary programs and restart your computer:

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open the Task Manager.
  2. Click More Details in the bottom-left.
  3. Select the Startup tab.
  4. Right-click on each item listed and select Disable. Make sure all are “Disabled”.
  5. Restart the computer.

If the issue is resolved after restarting your system, you can enable each startup application one at a time to determine which one is causing the problem. You will need to restart between each application you enable.

Note: To re-enable startup applications, follow steps 1-4 and select Enable.

If the freezing persists after restart, let’s go ahead and have you post a ‘DxDiag’ so we can further investigate the problem. Here are the instructions:

  1. Press Windows Key + R.
  2. Type DxDiag and press Enter.
  3. In the DxDiag window, click Save All Information.
  4. Name the file “dxdiag” and click Save
  5. Once you have that made, open the file. You’ll need to copy and paste the contents of the Text document into the post, and put four Tilde (~) marks above the DXDiag. It’ll look like this:
DXDiag goes here

If you have issues pasting here, please use Pastebin and post the link (ex: Pastebin (dot) com/123456).

So it was fine for a couple of days after running the repair again. It stopped responding multiple times in a dungeon again.

Here is the link to the information. Down in diagnostics you can see the errors.

Still happening. Thanks

Is it like a hard hitch where you can’t do anything at all with your computer? Could be something wrong with the TDR delay settings in Windows, but if it’s being tripped at all, that’s not a good sign. Usually something kernal or driver level, but can be a sign of failing hardware or bad ram as well.

Try this: Set WoW to use DX11 in the advanced settings and see if it still happens. WoW has a ton of problems with DX12 for some reason.

Unfortunately that did not help the problem.

Its only wow that is having the issue, I can sit in any other game for hours and not have a single problem. :frowning:

You have a slightly unusual computer config. You have a $3k video card and a $50 C: drive. You only have 32gb free space left on your 120gb C: and one rule of thumb says to have about 4 x Ram = 128gb free space on C:

Wow is crashing alot along with Warcraft Logs Uploader. I would try moving Wow installation to another drive and disable Warcraft Logs Uploader and see if that helps. Also I would have nothing else open while playing Wow not even a browser.

I’m sorry, but the 120 is only my os. Which isn’t really strange when you consider that my computer is from 2014.

I did say that wow is on an SSD with plenty of space, to be exact it has 95GB worth of space left on it.

And no its not because of Warcraft logs, the reason that is coming up with an error is because I force closed it before it could update all the way. I only ever opened it at raid time and that was not when the crashes occurred.

Once again, its only wow that is having the issue. I can play everything else fine for hours and have nothing happen. I even checked the SSD wow is on and its fine. I have FF14 on that drive too and played it for a couple of hours as a test, with no issues.

And fyi your pricing is way off :stuck_out_tongue: Graphics card was $1600 ish and the 120SSD was was over 300 bucks. 2014.

Hey there Skywolf! My apologies for the delay in response, and I appreciate the added information and details you’ve shared regarding these lockups. The Windows Errors unfortunately don’t provide much indication as to what is causing the issue, as there aren’t any overarching issues shown in the DxDiag outside of the already mentioned World of Warcraft errors. There is a slightly more recent (released 1-7-2020) driver for your GPU that I recommend installing, but before installing the new driver I recommend first uninstalling any old potentially damaged/corrupted driver files with the DDU tool.

Here is the guide on using the DDU software.

If you continue to experience issues after re-installing the GPU driver, many problems related to your installation of Windows can be resolved by creating a new administrator account, logging into it, and trying the game there.

If the game works consistently on the new admin account, this indicates that something unique to the configuration of your primary Windows user account is causing the problem. This is somewhat common, and the easiest fix is to move any user-specific files that you wish to keep from the old user account to the new admin account. You can also work with Microsoft’s Support to troubleshoot the problem with the old account if preferred.

I hope this helps, let us know how it goes!

I’m sorry … but that’s the whole point. The space is needed where your OS resides C: because of your page file is usually on C: unless it’s been moved (not recommended).

Your information is incorrect. The amount of space require is also determined by what you are doing. I would be surprised if I ever found someone who just plays generals games, use more then 16gb of ram and I would be worried if I was somehow using 100% of 32gb. When I upgrade I will have more storage for my OS. But my point was, my PC is from 2014. 120 was great for that time and the space is fine.
You really should not reply to comments unless you have something constructive to say. This is for trying to fix an issue that is not relevant to your comments.

I’ve been having these issues as well, and I opened a ticket. I ran all the diagnostics they asked, we found nothing wrong, and they told me, “well, it’s a hardware issue. We can’t help you.”

Kind of puzzling how a GPU that can run 4K benchmarks for over an hour without issue, but suddenly has issues in WoW is the problem. But I was also provided no additional info to see if the issue was the GPU after all.
