Game Not Always Launching from Bnet Launcher

What it says on the label - I click the Play button on the launcher and the game does not open. I can wait a few minutes and still nothing. Click Play again, and again, nothing. I can click it multiple times, and either nothing happens or multiple WoW windows open almost 10 minutes later and I have to close the spares.

I’ve tried all the fixes:

  • All drivers are up to date
  • Game is up to date
  • Bnet Launcher is up to date
  • Run the Scan & Repair tool
  • Inserted “-d3d11” into the Additional Command Line Arguments (or removed it)
  • Reset in-game settings
  • Un/Reinstall Bnet
  • Un/Reinstall WoW /shudder/
  • Started the game as Admin
  • Bnet and all associated games are allowed with my antivirus program
  • Hard reset of internet connection
  • Hard restart of the PC so its not waking up from sleep/hibernation
  • Sacrificed a few gnomes, tossed some Blood Elves in for good measure
  • Etc…

Nothing is a permanent fix. I can go days, or weeks where the game launches when I push the button, and then for some unknown reason (I’m assuming some ant in Mongolia farted), it refuses to launch for days or weeks before going back to functioning normally (another farting ant, I’m guessing). I’ve played since BC and its never done this until DF. This issue doesn’t occur with OW or DIII. Please don’t direct me to the Blizzard technical support page for this issue - I’ve tried all the stuff and NONE OF THEM ARE A TRUE FIX.

I use the beta of Battle.net … The option is on left side at bottom … Using the menu/cog wheel button in battle.net

I had same issue with old laptop…hard drive … Not with my upgrade of SSD drive.

Or…You can launch game … And open up the task manager … With Ctrl-Alt and Delete keys pressed together at same time. Look for and End Task of all Battle.net … Under details.
At bottom watch for WoW.exe to start…that’s when the game should show up.

You can also turn off all updates with battle.net and try without them loading above…in Task Manager.

Good luck.

i am running in the same problems as you, tried all the steps and game refuse to launch at all

What I think is happening is, even though battle.net shows it’s connected, it really isn’t. What had worked for me is closing out the entire battle.net app and relaunching it and it works.

Have done that multiple times over IDK how long this problem has existed - never works

I paid for the darn thing, and the subscription - I’d love to able to play without wasting an hour or more (or flat out giving up) every day when this problem crops up. Its doubly stressful during scheduled raid nights “Gee, I wish I could help you fellow guildies, but the stupid game refuses to launch!”

I’m sorely tempted to keep clicking PLAY and see how many windows I can get to open when it finally DOES decide to launch. I’ve gone a good 10 minutes before it finally did once, so that would be a LOT of windows.

Does any of you have Exploit Protection enabled in Windows Security or any other antivirus? If so, try to exclude the game exe.

Yes, I am having the exact same issue, it sounds like. I press “CTRL+ALT+DEL”, and it shows Warcraft is running, but it takes forever to start. Sometimes, it doesn’t start at all.

My friends and I have all ran into this issue on both retail and classic. It takes upwards of 10 minutes to launch from the BNet launcher and when it does launch, it will launch a new window for every time I have pressed play.

Can we see a DxDiag or MSInfo?
