Game lags up background windows

Ever since updating to windows 11, WoW causes my background windows to lag up.

Like for example: If I’m watching a youtube video with the game open, the video will freeze up visually. Or if I’m streaming, all the stream assets other than the game will lag.

Only WoW does this, every other game I play doesn’t have this issue. I have a good CPU, I just upgraded it, so I have no idea what could be causing this. My previous (worse) cpu didn’t even have this happen.

I have an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-core processor if that matters. 16 GB Ram. Nvidia graphics card, phantom gaming motherboard.

I have updated my graphics card drivers and that helped a little but it still happens enough to be very inconvenient.

I’m having the same issues, all other games including blizzard games run great. wow just seems to have somthing going on with it.

Which Nvidia card though? What drivers for the GPU are installed for it as well.

Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 6gb version 511.79

Yep, same thing here. RTX 3060TI 511.79. I’m gonna try and downgrade graphics drivers to see if that works and will report back

EDIT: Downgrading to 511.65 seems to have worked, YMMV

Thank you so much for this, this seems to have fixed the issue for me too.

If anyone else has this issue and not able to rollback like I wasn’t, here’s where I got the driver version. (Can’t post links so remove spaces and copy)

Will come back if it suddenly starts happening again but so far it seems good.

Edit: Turn off MSAA in system settings and limit FPS for foreground/background. This also helped.

Hope this works for you too!
