Game is POORLY optimized?

anyone notice FPS has been going down over time?

I have the exact same computer that I used to get 180 fps everywhere with, and now I’m sitting here looking at the anniversary event area and the empty desert and im getting… 67 avg fps?

what the hell? I’ve tried tinkering with all the settings, quite literally none of the settings even make a difference, maybe slightly with shadows, but yeah 67 fps is the most I can squeeze out even messing with the settings.

This doesn’t seem right, the game looks the same, I’m in Silithius FFS, why the low framerate?

for reference I have an i7, rtx2070 super, windows 10, also all addons off

Been using the same CPU and GPU since I started WoW (for reference i9 9th gen and AMD 6700XT OC bought mid 2021. Addons WA/Details/DBM/HR.

I’ve experienced no lag in Silithus or other places. But is there something we can try to see how you’re getting lag? (An area or mob, etc)

an i7 … 4790k? 6700F? 11700K?

Also, WoW is usually CPU-bound.

Yep, and i7 by itself means nothing. I have about the same performance that I did in Dragonflight.

Graphics-wise, no.

Server response time wise, absolutely.

The lag is real lately. Feels like I’m playing Marvel vs Capcom 3 with a player in the Philippines.

I’ve noticed small amounts of intermittent lag since the patch. Only in certain places. It’s mostly still fine though.

Are you on intel?

Check you Bios. Intel has done FORCED mobo updates to fix flagship CPUs and speed up olderones.

It has been disabling everyone’s XMP after the update. Check your Bios. Also this Expansion enabled Ray Tracing by default. Check to make sure thats disabled too’

ALWAYS make these post here. Its where all us Tech Nerds hang out

I’ve always had ray tracing on since it was added as an option in Dragonflight and it doesn’t affect performance much. Granted, I have a 3080ti so YMMV.

That’s highly dependent on what CPU you’re on

Haven’t had any framerate issues since I returned for Dragonflight. Even in a massive superbloom I’ve never dropped under 60.

Framerate tanking in stuff like raids is being caused by addons. Bellular did a video that went into depth about it. It’s particularly addons like Details, and addons that use 3D models for portraits.

WoW is more about CPU anyway if you are on say a 5800x3D or better you wont notice a hit. Most people are not tho

Thats why I mentioned it

I mean yeah super high framerates are better (I do have a 144Hz monitor), but I usually keep it on 60 for this game because 60 is enough given there is latency to the server anyway. Just keeps things cooler and uses less power.

I’m on a 12900k. Was the best available at the time I built this machine. The X3D chips didn’t come out until later. If I were to build a machine today it’d definitely be a 7800 or 9800X3D. Wouldn’t use a 5800 because I’m not using PGA chips. Thankfully AMD finally got off of that obsolete platform.

I have had worse than normal performance since the .5 patch. I’m on a 5800x3d and a 4070ti. I’m waiting to see performance metrics for the 9800x3d to see if I want to upgrade or wait another generation.

I’ve noticed a bit of interrmittent additional server latency since the patch but not any unusual framerate loss.

If you are curious about them see my reply here. Compares 13900k and 7950x3D the 13900k needed 7200mhz to even come close to the 7950x3D which was running 6000mhz

Yeah right now I don’t have any plans to upgrade. Not until my 12900k starts giving me less than adequate performance in games. I will upgrade eventually. And it’ll depend on what both AMD and Intel have at the time that I build. At the time I built mine the 12900k was the best, and the 4000 series wasn’t out until quite some time later. RIGHT NOW, AMD is clearly the better choice, because the 285K is currently a dumpster fire.

As far as GPU’s, Nvidia all the way, AMD recently gave up on even trying to compete on the high end (which, to be fair, midrange GPU’s are more profitable because more people buy them).

You don’t need to the only time moving to one of the new CPUs would cause you to notice a difference is in WoW because it’s a cpu-bound game or other games if you were on a 4090 which you’re not

You’re currently GPU Bound on you 3080ti in other games so until you upgrade your GPU there is literally no reason for you to even consider a CPU upgrade

Normal Games
GPU>Ram>CPU (CPU is the Last thing that can bottleneck you)
WoW, other MMOs and CPU Dependent Games
CPU>Ram>GPU (CPU is the First thing that can bottleneck you)

WOW is my “main game” for the time being. And yes I know it’s much more CPU intensive than other games. But my WOW performance is acceptable for now. I also play on a laptop with a 12700h and a 3060, and my performance is fine there too. Regardless of WOW being CPU bound though, the ray tracing option is GPU dependent.

I’m really curious how my system will perform with Spider-Man 2 when it releases. Either way my GPU is far more powerful than what’s in the PS5 so shouldn’t have any issues. My next upgrade realistically will be in 2026, we’ll see. And what I get will be the best on offer at the time I build it.
