I still play and love the game but still was way better when you could purchase flying with gold and it was something you could do right away.
The only thing that should be changed is to have all of pathfinder available on launch.
If you can’t bother to do content whats the point of having flying? So you can gank people sooner?
I have been pro-pathfinder for a very long time. I have also enjoyed every expansion until now. I know how people must have felt playing MoP and I mean there is way to much to do and keep track of if you started late in the game. If you like to complete all the quests and such in all the zones as I usually do, it’s a no brainer that pathfinder was really easy to get.
However, I do not like the daily zones like mecha. I feel like I’m going insane when I play them, doing the same tasks every day expecting something different. I only have those two last factions before I get pathfinder for bfa and I can’t bring myself to do them.
Agree with you OP, but I would include, as an alternative, Pathfinger for those who like it.
Pathfinder in its current iteration is nothing more than increasing time played metrics.
All of BfA’s systems have an attached time played metric grind. It’s terrible.
Pathfinder should’ve just been complete and explore a zone to unlock its pathfinder.
This company is all about shareholders first though, so don’t ever expect pathfinder to be like that.
I’m intrigued by this…
Tell me more about this… Pathfinger.
Hold up, let me get a glass of wine and some candles…
all the people defending PF claim well time gates are good for the game and that even BC had them which is true but those time gates were not tedious and felt like a to do list of chores in order to enjoy the game they were in fact integrated into the content and players loved it we rose to the challenge and did them because they were fun and not simply an artificial speedbump designed to purposely slow us down
but now theyre nothing more than a means to stretch out a thin lackluster content dreamed up by a bunch of devs that apparently don’t even posses a fraction of the imagination of their predecessors and it clearly shows by the way the content has shrunk over the last few expansions
honestly im amazed WoW hasn’t been shuttered or made free to play with the downhill spiral it has been taking lately due largely in part to the current team working on it
I’ve never played any game ever in which time-gates improved the content or gameplay. Enough of them and I stop playing.
Reset the clocks!
The problem with not having flying available upon max level is it makes the content have to be designed in a specific way that it treats flying as being irrelevant.
Back when flying was available towards max level the game and the world was designed around that fact, we had zones like Icecrown and Storm Peaks which were exclusively designed around having flying and even the smaller daily areas in TBC where interesting as you essentially unlocked new areas of the zone from flying.
Current game you have the same levelling content and you have daily content, all of it is designed to be done from the ground so flying is merely a convenience, it brings nothing to the game outside of increased speed and the ability to avoid mobs, it’s boring. This is why the developers feel that they are warranted in holding off on providing access to it.
People defending pathfinder hate the gates as well.
What we DO like is only dealing with the crap ONCE, then having flying automatically on every alt we’ll ever make.
Add up gold cost increases from one expansion to the next, and by the time you get to BfA, the cost would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 200k gold for flying…per character.
It doesn’t take an economist to tell you that pathfinder is a better deal.
Doesn’t have to increase that much though realistically, that’s just Blizzard’s design. Doesn’t even need to cost anything really, could just be granted at max level.
Personally I think the better system would be a combination. Allow people to get it earlier as soon as they hit max level, design the content around the expectation of having flying, and then have a day one pathfinder achievement that unlocks flying for all of your alts alongside an expansion centric mount.
some of us have presented the fair caveat of pay to use flight is in the game. And…pathfinder. they coexist in harmony and the player decides.
Want it cheap/free grind this out. just don’t really want to deal with weeks of time gated content, pay your way out of it.
At least for WoD I am reaching I will happily pay for it. its the assaults. Daily dose of RNG. Is this a new assault to check off the list? Nope…well sucks to be me. try again tomorrow.
And WoD for many already costs money. A very common piece of advice for its PF is just buy rep items on the AH. So we could argue many already pay to fly here really.
Or in 9.0 they could just lump this under the generic flight like the 60 one. You see we all pay for flight at level 60. then upgrade at 80…then master.
Fun fact, if you don’t mind the reduced speed…you can pay for the 60 and 80 upgrade and be done. I have a few alts like this.
With my alt addiction…that 5000k master upgrade per alt ain’t happening. Slower flight does me fine really. its better than walking.
I know this has already been touched on (pun intended) but I literally chuckled aloud when I read this.
That’s great and lots of players agree.
Lots of players would prefer a gold option.
I say let there be both.
In any event flight must be built in at launch and available whenever anyone completes whatever means to earning flight they choose.
Pathfinger lovers can enjoy the perks and gold payers can just fly at max and have done with it.
Everyone. Happy.
I haven’t had flying in any of the expansions since MoP because I’ve been too lazy to do Pathfinder. Not being able to fly hasn’t bothered me yet. I might get BFA Pathfinder since I’ve almost completed it by just playing the expansion content so I don’t have much work left to do on it or I might not because Shadowlands is not too far off. /shrug
Revered is not that hard to get though.
true…flying was when the game was best, ie tbc and wotlk. so…
I’m going to take an issue with “All the people”.
I like Pathfinder for the reward (and honestly, i like the work side of things that pushes me to see the content, kinda reminds me of a certain game, and you know that game i’m talking about… )… but the Time Gate aspect of it, the arbitrary 6-10 month wait is just pants. I can’t even come up excuses for why this is a good thing in particular, outside of giving devs more time to work on the world and such, but the world for the most part just seems finished. It’s functional, it looks pretty and i’m not falling though the floor or getting stuck in the glitchy terrain.
Though one particular unfinished business i have found a year ago before pathfinder was a missing water square in that lake near the horde camp in Stormsong Valley. You think somebody on the Blizzard team might’ve noticed that before releasing expansion.
It’s fixed now.
I would probably buy Shadowlands and stay subbed if you could complete Pathfinder P1 and fly in the launch zones.
I WOULD DEFINITELY buy Shadowlands and stay subbed if they also shortened tthe requirements to zone storylines, Explorer and honored rep.
