Game freezing when alt tabbing back into game

Since the patch, everytime I tab back into the game. It freezes. I need to alt tab twice to fix it. Not sure what is causing this.

Same for me. I don’t know how to fix it and I’m not sure what’s happening. Did they add a graphics option or something that wasn’t broadcasted? I don’t know the menu well enough to know.

Edit: Turn off sound in background in the menu. It worked for me. It still happens occasionally, but it definitely helped it keep from happening every time.

Is it a blackscreen freeze? If so, right click your wow.exe within the folder->compatibility tab->UNCHECK disable fullscreen optimizations->okay.

Not a blackscreen, no. The game just freezes, with the occasional “program not responding” prompt with the white screen and spinning blue circle of crap.

Sounds like a soft GPU driver crash or a TDR that doesn’t result in a full crash. Make sure zero other programs are using hardware acceleration. Within your task manager, right click one of the category names like name/status/memory, check “gpu engine.” Scroll through the long list and see if anything in the list is using the GPU engine. It will say “GPU 0 - 3D” or something like that.

The only things that should show up in the list are WoW, Desktop Window Manager and sometimes Client Server Runtime Host(it will blip on and off the list).

If anything else is in the list, terminate it and re-test. Things like overlays, Discord, web browsers, RGB softwares, mouse and keyboard softwares, etc are going to be your common culprits since they all tend to come with overlays and all tend to use hardware acceleration by default.
