Game freezing in instances, unable to log back in

Been happening since season 3 began, when in any instance, raid or m+, randomly the game will decide to freeze. character models will stay stuck in animations they’re doing and I will be unable to act in any way, frames will not update either. Text chat will continue to update and I can interact with it.

It will stay in this state indefinetley. If I alt + F4 out I will be able to log into another character perfectly fine, but if I try to log back into the character I was playing on, it will get stuck roughly 70% through the load screen and then stay there for at least 3 minutes (yes, I timed it)

Upon re-entering the game on the character I was playing on, I will either be ported to oribos or the beginning of the dungeon I was doing. Sometimes getting a summon after will give the “Transfer aborted: Instance not found” error text. And port me back to oribos.

Whenever this bug occurs I have no issues with my internet connection, discord, bnet, and my browser function perfectly. I tried performing a scan and repair as well as uninstalling and reinstalling wow and nothing has fixed it. This has been occurring repeatedly and randomly for the past week and a half. It’s essentially an RNG fail the key or raid wipe. I’ve done everything I can. Please send help.

I have this exact same issue, but it ONLY happens on my shaman and its been happening since season 2. I’ve also tried scanning / repairing as well as completely uninstalling and running without any addons. Nothing seems to fix it.

Another tidbit: If I notice its happening and alt+f4 right away, attempting to log back into the character will result in a “World Server Down” error message. Which obviously is false.

Bump. Seems to be kinda time based. Usually happens around 20-30 minutes into the dungeon. Had two keys ruined by it occurring during the final boss of the run. I’m currently circumventing it by purposely DCing myself via alt+F4 about 15ish minutes into dungeons. Better to take 20-30 seconds to purposely DC and come back than 6-7 minutes DCing to freaking Oribos and having to fly back to the instance.

Got a reply from support on this. Going to post the response here. Renaming the three folders mentioned in the reply and running those console commands SEEMS to have fixed the problem. Was able to run two dungeons with no issues. Going to run more tomorrow to verify.

Thanks for reaching out to us on this game hang and freeze issue. I know this happening is never a fun thing to deal with and hope we can help.

First, I would want to see what the hardware is doing while you try an play. Sometimes this is as simple as the computer just neededing to be blown out to let it not get as warm. You can know if that is the case with an HWmonitor. https://battle.net/support/article/000031363

Next, if not a heat problem, I would try and turn off extra programs. Try rebooting with Selective Startup:
This can be used to close out background processes and non-Microsoft services that could be interfering with the connection or the game client.

  • Press Windows Key+R.
  • Type msconfig and press Enter.
  • Select Selective startup and uncheck Load startup items.
  • Select the Services tab.
  • Check Hide all Microsoft services.
Note: Skipping this step may prevent your computer from rebooting correctly.
  • Click Disable all.
  • Click Apply then click OK.
  • Click Restart.

Last, if nothing else here helps, I would want to reset the game client. It will require some commands and clearing some game files.

The game files needed to be cleared are in the steps here. https://battle.net/support/article/7549
Note This has you change the name so you can get the addons back if this does not help. Also Disable any addon managers*

The chat commands I would like you to enter after these files were changed are:
/Console Cvar_reset
/Console Cvar_default

You will see that you do not have permissions to run this pop up on the screen. Do not worry, it should do what we need. Click run anyway if a box pops up.

Thanks for giving us a chance to work with you.
