Game Freezes during combat!

Had the game freeze on me terribly tonight, fighting some elite. Only addon was Questie. Fixed when I alt-tabbed for a second.

This is an auto update running in the back ground… Open your task manager to see if something is scanning or running that shouldn’t be running. I would close everything that can be closed within the task manager.

Did check after with task manager, nothing updated or changed. All other apps worked, even sound.

check to see if you have any updates for your system that may or may not have been forced to update while in game. I believe one can turn off updates now for at least 7 days… check your power settings etc. Again, I feel it’s a scan done by Microsoft. drivers, even addons etc checking your system for updates. So even if you check it now… it may not show anything cause it just happen or happened when it did in the video… this is one reason why I have a split screen with the desktop viewable.

Honestly did a lot of that, but also checking forums, reddit, and just asking people, seemes to be a somewhat common issue for some.

Also new psu, checked my memory a month ago with both windows and memtest apps, and more. Isn’t the only issue I have with WoW either so note sure what is causing these.

Either way, I do appreciate the help and feedback.

As I said, do a split screen and open the task manager (if you system can handle it) and keep it open to check the system to see if this happens again while you’re in the game. Edit: One thing I have noticed also is that my browser would update while in game and would have a similar effect.

Fair enough, will do. Will sort by RAM and see. Honestly, only other thing I can think of is a reported memory leak issie and my sole addon questie betraying me.

OMFG, yes this is exactly what mine does. Its so annoying getting me killed constantly. Im using a brand new laptop. TUFF Gaming, A16 Ryzen7 7735HS, 16 gig DDR5.

Last AMD card I had was a rx 580. Ton of my older games were running poorly. I hate AMD’s drivers. Took it back and got a GTX 1650 and have never touched anything AMD since. Haven’t used an AMD CPU since the A10 era.

Can you do me a favor and try using your game in windowed mode. I used to have that issue and was told it was a hardware issue by various Blizzard shills but swapping to windowed instantly fixed it. The only time I see it is if I go back in to fullscreen.

playing in windowed mode is a poor solution though :expressionless: and in my experience, if that works, there’s usually a better solution that can fix it for full screen too.

I have zero issues playing in windowed mode, especially if the trade off is having my character freeze frame for 5s at random intervals.

If you think there’s a better solution, or one that works for full screen then feel free to let everyone that has dealt w/and attempted to troubleshoot this issue for the better part of 2 years know.

do you have the max foreground FPS option checked? and is it at an FPS your monitor can handle?

Do you have an AMD graphics card? If yes, that is the issue. Bail for Nvidia.

Yes. Any of their newer stuff is a good way to do things.

More like AMD hates quality drivers. I went AMD last year after almost a decade of Intel/Nvidia and my crashing has been prolific in comparison. Especially new releases and games that patch often - there is something in there that devs struggle with on AMD cards. For example, BG3 crashed a ton until patch…2 I think?
