Game freezes during combat, especially around high AoE abilities

I’ve been having this issue on & off for a few months now where my game suddenly freezes for a few seconds in middle of combat. Usually when I’m in a raid, BG or world boss and lot of folks start attacking/casting spells. But has also happened a few times in places like arena which have fewer people and spells.

It is Not a consistent issue - many times my game works fine in the same situations listed above. I have a GTX1070 card and 16gb ram, which I believe should suffice for running the game smoothly .

On advice of a friend, I started going to task manager and shutting few background apps (discord, slack, etc.) to see if it solved the issue. This works sometimes, but most other times I have to restart my game client in order to resolve it.

Any advice on solving this would be helpful.

Hey there,

If it’s happening only during combat this may indicate an addon or UI issue. Try resetting the user interface and then test the game again for a bit to see if that helps.

I’d also recommend making sure your drivers are up to date, and that the game is using DirectX 12 which you can check by hitting Esc and going to System → Advanced → Graphics API
