Game freeze and memory leak

I have encountered same issue as Random game freezes after patch - #10 by Lessamegwyn-kirin-tor.

And each time the game freezes, memory usage is increased by ~800MB. In less than 1 hour, the Wow.exe has already consumes 7.4GB of memory, with all addons disabled.

This is output of Sysinternal’s VMMap:

Hey Draemer,

Which DirectX version are you using? Does the issue persist on every version, DirectX 11 (Legacy), DirectX 11, and DirectX 12?

It only persist on DirectX 11. DirectX 11 Legacy and DirectX 12 are good.

You’re having live kernel events that are typically related to a corrupt graphics card driver. Have you uninstalled using ddu and reinstalled the driver using a fresh download from nvidia?

this also hapened to me from today patch, i dont think 2 graphics cards went corrupt at the same day and for the same reasons, wow is consuming an anormal amount of memory.

It’s the same issue they silently hot fixed months ago… It corresponds with the talking head/ character panel hang ups.

Same here . My issue went on when using both direct x 11 & direct x 12 .
On direct x 11 Legacy , it’s fine but awful fps .

Same problem here me friend! Game freezes since the patch was instaled, happens to me 5 times in about 2 hours, tue game freezes for about 20 seconds, then my computer freezes too, have to hard reset, i didnt have this problem before the patch… They keep sayin that is our grapich card and our memory, but is really strange those freezes happenin after the PATCH 8.3.7, again after a patch… The game is unplayble and i need a solution and a hot fix for blizzard right now… Thinkin about stop playin… im really sad.

You’ll note I’m directly replying to errors in his supplied dxdiag report. I’m not saying anything about a general pattern of behavior.

If you want help, post a dxdiag.

The same is happening to me

I’ve tried updating graphics, thinking even about investing a new graphics card if I have to.

Whats been happening with me is the same, after about two minutes of playing it will freeze for about thirty seconds to a minute and then will continue but every time I check my memory usage using task manager it seems to be only wow thats blowing up. I’ve updated to windows 10 (finally) thinking that would help, which it still continued, I’ve tried going into Registry Editor on my pc and change the output of NDU to four which people recommended, but to no avail. Tried to scan for repairs but nothing.

This didn’t happen until the most recent patch and now after two days with me dealing with the freeze and trying to fix it in my off time I can’t even play without my wow nope-ing out and just crashing all together. I have no idea what’s happening.

Yes it does and I’m on a brand new computer.

changing to directx 11 legacy works , but as mentioned the fps drop its noticeable

having the same issue after patch as well. Never had an issue before. Also getting unable to start 3d acceleration. It’s completely unplayable at the moment. I can log on and run around fine with 90fps for a few minutes and then the 20 second freezes start happening… sometimes I can go 10 seconds before they start and other times I can go 30+ minutes… but when they start it’s over from there. They will happen every few minutes until the game crashes.

I’m glad i’m not the only one having this issue. Up until the patch, i didn’t have any issues. But after the patch, it’s constant issues and only with WoW and not any other games that i play on my pc. So not being super computer savy, but i’d say that it’s a Blizzard issue and not something with my pc. When i start playing Wow, it fine and then for no reason it’ll freeze for 5-15 sec (seems just long enough for me to get killed) and then it’ll work again but the freezing is very random. After reading all these comments of alot of people having the same issue, what can be done to fix it and how to fix it?

DirectX 12 would normally be the better version to use in most situations. If the problem only happens in the 11 versions and 12 runs well on the computer I do recommend using it.

As far as resolving the problem for DirectX 11 versions, it’d be best to start by doing a full reset on the game files to verify if it happens without anything extra loading. Even when disabled there are still tons of cache files or changes made to game files by addons.

Similarly, disabling background applications would be another thing to consider.

I do hope the information helps. If you’re still having trouble after this troubleshooting, please generate a text copy of your DxDiag using these instructions. Once you have that made, open the file. Copy the code below, then copy/paste everything from that DXDiag file between the rows of tilde (~) marks where it says “DXDiag goes here.”

If the file’s too large to submit, you can upload it to a file hosting site like pastebin and post the link in the code above instead.

Happening to me too. My card is only capable of DX11 feature set. We should switch to legacy? I’m getting huge memory spikes and lots of freezes when moving around in the world, but only since the Tuesday maintenance.

I’m not sure if I was using “legacy” mode before and if the maintenance switched it or such.

Having the same issue after patch this 21th of july, game freezes at times for 5 to 10 seconds, even reinstalled wow and also tested without addons, still freezes.

Hey there,

The main thing I’m seeing in the DxDiag is a huge number of kernel 141 errors which means there is a problem with device drivers. However Windows does not specify which one.

I do notice there is an updated version of graphics drivers available. Have you already tried the newer driver version, Potter?

Let us know how it goes. Cheers!

I’ve created a post relating the same issue, and it also started after 8.3.7 here. I’ve tried to paste my dxdiag on the post, but it requires a reply. But anyway, the problem lies on 141 errors indeed, there are several of them on the logs. To check whether it was a hardware fault, I ran 3 stress tests: CPU, GPU and memory. All of them didn’t report anything. It’s worth pouting out that, in my case, this only happens in WoW, other games, including some more cpu and GPU-heavy, run just fine. Also, I’m stuck to Direct3D 11, my gpu doesn’t support 12, although this was never an issue in WoW. Legacy support seem to make the game run without issues, but low frame rates. I also reinstalled gpu drivers using DDU. Everything that was told here and in other posts I’ve done, but no luck.
