Game Freeze and Automatic reboot M1 Mac mini 16gb ram

This has happened numerous times, at least twice a day where the screen will freeze, I will hear some game noise in the background about 20 seconds later my Mac has completely restarted. I can deal with this every now and again, but I have lost rating and gotten deserter buffs in 2 blitz games and a solo shuffle because of it, both times I would have gained a lot of rating. Making me really disheartened to continue playing.

Things I have tried:

  • using only one monitor
  • disconnecting external speakers
  • repairing the game file
  • not having things running in the background

It is not overheating, not even close.

What macOS version? since it’s apple silicon, you’d be best served making sure you have latest just in case of driver fixes. I know each iteration has improved stability for apple silicon (and done opposite for non apple silicon).

Yep, updated. Happened with the previous version of MacOS and the current version.

Mate, same problem I reported just a minute ago, per:

Hi guys / gals. Been having the MOST annoying crashes for ever, with multiple versions of WoW + macOS.

Looking at crash reports + logs, Apple actually warns that using this specific call will cause the exact lockups + crashes I am experiencing:

ERROR:

Could someone in the dev team look at this and get back on a fix ASAP??? Getting really annoyed at downtime + risk of data loss + wear and tear on spinning backup hardware having to get back in to raid 0.

Looking at some of the below posts, e.g.: Game Freeze and Automatic reboot M1 Mac mini 16gb ram

…and many others that appear to be related, this one oversight might be the cause of a World of Woe!

I am pretty confident it will be your issue too, which means it’s not drivers, corrupt preferences, Silicone nor anything but a coding oversight. Hopefully easy fix!

a panic is always an OS or driver issue, or hardware one. I suspect in this case probably driver.

At worst blizzard is to blame for just using an api the driver has a bug in. which means blizz can’t and won’t fix it. If they ever identify which api causes it, they’d forward it to apple for fixing. but of note, apple will not be fixing issues with AMD, intel, or nivdia drivers any longer so even if blizz found cause, it’d never be fixed for non apple silicon would be my guess.
