i’ve had an issue lately where, if i have the game running and then launch a second copy of it, the second copy forces itself into a weird resolution thats like 10 pixels smaller than my actual resolution which causes all the text to be slightly blurry
weirdly, when i go to select a resolution, it lists the “correct” one as one of the options (2560x1440) but when i select it it changes to “custom” and forces the resolution to 2560x1421.

versus what it does on the first copy i launch:

no amount of selecting the correct resolution, quitting, relaunching, etc fixes it. both accounts im using haev the same settings, addons, etc, i even re-copied the wtf folder to make sure.
it’s driving me nuts, i’m tired of everything being just a little bit blurry. anyone have any ideas as to why this would be happening??

When this occurs its due to a display issue. WoW will have lost its display handle - you probably noticed the game stall for a few seconds (sometimes more than a few) and the screen may have blanked out as well, depending on the exact cause. When it restarts its renderer it does so in some kind of “safe” mode which seems to inherit the wrong display dimensions. You’ll also find that it’s now locked to running in DirectX 11 mode, though this is only really evident by RT shadows no longer working or being configurable.
I’m a little surprised that restarting the game doesn’t fix it, as that causes a more complete reinitialisation of the renderer. Changing to Windowed mode and back (even just cancelling the confirmation box) should also correct the resolution, but will still be locked in DX11 until you reload the client.
(NB I’m not actually sure what happens if you’re already in DX11 mode before things go wonky)
Your Reliability Monitor should show a critical event at the same time the aforementioned stall occurred - likely a hardware error such as a LiveKernelEvent. This doesn’t actually mean there’s anything wrong with your hardware, rather something it was trying to do simply took too long to respond and tripped a fail-safe.

Next time it happens while still in WoW with the blurry looking screen press Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B to have it reset the graphics driver.
This does nothing. The beep is heard and it restarts the driver, but the resolution is unchanged.
sorry for taking 6 days to reply but weirdly this does actually seem to fix it – which is great, but its annoying that i have to do it every time i launch the game.
setting it to windowed and then back to windowed (fullscreen) also sort-of fixes it but its not perfect (the text is still just slightly blurry). really i wish i knew what was causing it and why it was only happening after i launch a second copy of the game but i guess as long as theres a workaround for the time being ill survive lol
thanks both of you
