Game developer quits due to racism/sexism?

I follow this guy on Youtube and he does a fair job at reporting news and gives his opinions. I just heard of this story about a developer with Blizzard suffering tremendously to sexism and racism. Is this true? If it is, Blizzard needs to do some self assessment.

People should think twice about seeking and eliminating toxicity from the world when they themselves utilize it.

What are your thoughts?

Never heard of this guy before in my life. Though in this PC culture era, I highly doubt huge companies are openly “Racist” and “Sexist”

Until proof comes out, I’ll remain skeptical.

I’m not in the habit of defending Blizzard.

Having said that, if the employee can document the “racism / sexism”, then they have a bona fide case against Activision.

Otherwise, this may be a disgruntled ex-employee (ala the Seattle Mariners situation) where the ex is claiming one thing and the truth is something else.

In this day and age, I need to see proof of this nonsense before I actually believe it.

IIRC reading his post, he never “actually” reported it to the higher ups. Just kept it to himself, plus it seemed like it was centered on a single person being “racist” against him.

I agree with you guys - I’m always skeptical about everything in life unless I see evidence or know the facts.

In the same breath I can totally see Activision Blizzard allowing stuff like this to happen underneath their own roof. And if it’s true I hope that game developer sues for as much as he can get.

What are your thoughts?

I would find this odd, as in my experience Blizzard has always cracked down on things like homophobia and so on…

I also find this very odd. But odd things have been happening a lot lately, so I guess we’ll find out how it all plays out and what’s what fairly soon.

Blizz is probably one of the most inclusive companies around. I mean, they actually have a massive company program aimed at lgbt/veterans/women/ADA…and its employee ran. Which means corporate didn’t hand down the mandate.

I don’t know, I mean anything is possible, but I do think youtube isn’t the best place if a real issue is present. Get a lawyer.

The beauty of outrage culture eating itself is something I have come to enjoy. I almost find it endearing how people thinking that something as unremarkable as innocence will stop it.

I mean in this PC culture hellhole of a society we’re stuck in, I would believe it if it was because he is straight, white, and a male since it is the norm to make them public enemy number 1 nowadays.

But if it’s anything else, I’d be reeeeally skeptical considering the Soldier 76 chaos going on recently.

My thoughts are that we should focus more on the video game World of Warcraft and the people making that game and less on the business politics going on in the company we know nothing about, especially when they can easily be fabrications or exaggerations like this one.

Enjoy what you enjoy, but I’m here to talk about WoW, not alleged racism in some other game’s team!

I enjoy WOW. I’ve been in love with it since 2006. I’ve fallen out of love with Blizzard. Lately it’s been apparent that the Blizzard I fell in love with is long gone now. I will always enjoy WOW, regardless.

It pains me to see things like this happen, especially under the roof of the company that provides the game we all love and share with each other. Racism and sexism has no place in the world especially in the gaming community. I hope this gets resolved the right way and the people involved get what they deserve.

Its not true the guy who is claiming racism thinks everytime someone called him mexican he thinks it means they are calling him a male chauvinist. This crap needs to stop. Overly sensitive people need to stop being told their outrage is justified.

You haven’t been around the gaming community that long have you chap?

Couldn’t agree more. The world has gotten soft and so have the people. If life were a struggle people would be worrying about more important things like where the next meal is coming from, whether or not they’re going to live to see the next day - not matters based on gender, ethnicity, etc.

My advice is worry less about Blizzard and more about the game. You don’t know or interact with any of the people at that company other than the CM team, so don’t get bent out of shape by what is happening with the company.
BFA was rushed and its understandable to think that is some how Blizzard as a company’s fault, but the WoW development and publishing team is the only people who have direct control over this game to our knowledge, so focus on that if you have to have a target for out-of-game concern.

Either way, I’d look for actual proof this happened if you insist on worrying about it.
But really, I’d suggest just moving on. This is becoming a meme at this point, to blame others for being racist or sexist. The internet has dulled people’s wits, I think. Too easy to be a victim now.

I’m not worried about Blizzard, they’re gone. I am worried about the game though. I’m worried that the game developers don’t communicate enough with the players, therefore the game continues to not be as good as people want it to be. It is getting better. Hopefully 8.2 fills some holes for the community. Looking forward to the next 2 major patches.

You are presuming guilt.

What do you know that the rest of us do not in regards to this alleged incident?
