Looks like it.
I put up Breaking News and tweets should be on their way.
We’re working on putting mitigation in place to deal with the new one.
Edit: Adding a quote. When I merged the threads it seems to have lost the tie to the original post I answered.

If (and that’s a BIG if), there is a discussion for reimbursement, it won’t happen until things stabalize out and the overall impacts are looked at. But none of it will stem from people demanding it on this particular forum.
Only the Devs and Powers That Be will make that call - and neither of those staffers come to this forum. Our SFAs that you see posting here have no part in that decision.

What is being done to prevent this going forward
A week of targeted DDOS due to rwf is not acceptable in this day and age. Paying for a service that you cannot access is not acceptable.
What actions can the end users in NA expect so this does not happen again.
A DDoS isn’t something you can’t just stop before it happens, nor can you magically know when one is coming. No place in this world can just never have an DDoS. In this day and age, it’d be more easily done with tech and money.

Its impossible to predict a ddos reality is you can plan for everything but is the people are determined enough u cant stop it.

Nobody’s asking them to predict it. Mitigation plans alone would alleviate a lot of the stress, whether its cloudflare or other means.
People want and are asking for what are they doing to lessen the impact going forward so its not a week of outages.
Sounds good on paper reality not so much.

Blizzard does have mitigation plans in place, however it isn’t instant or seamless. Mitigation does take a little time to kick in, even with automated threat detection systems.
One important aspect to keep in mind is that mitigation does have the potential to block legitimate traffic. It’s not just flip a switch and things are back to normal. It is a carefully executed “dance”. New attack vectors appear every single day, so Blizzard is constantly needing to adapt.
As Darthwraith said, it may look good typing it out, but the reality of DDoS mitigation is much more complex than anyone realises.

Yes, which we have. Contrary to the popular narrative for some, our teams aren’t just bumbling around in the dark when a DDOS happens. They are actively working to mitigate it. Some of those actually spin up before anyone really notices, others take a bit more effort.
Sorry, but these aren’t systems I’m personally familiar with so I can’t really fill in the blanks. Nor is it likely something we’re going to discuss publicly, but we absolutely to have systems and protocols in place for when this or anything else happens.
Indeed.
As we seem to be in a good place I’m going to close this one up. Thanks all.
