Game Awards - ? Question

Why would wow win anything?

They have long since fallen from the top MMO in existence

If it helps, I understood what you were saying. It just seemed contradictory. It just seemed like you said the same about both, but you actually prefer WoW.

I am not making the claim that WoW is objectively better. I dont think either one is objectively better.

I certainly dont think polling a bunch of youtubers or such makes FFXIV an objectively better game because they voted it “best ongoing game” a year ago.

I think its ok to say that different people can find each subjectively better without saying one is objectively better.

How would it be the same? I dont think i said the same thing for both

FFXIV does better pve content in general, and better boss fights.

But WoW does better characters, zones, combat, world in general, lore. Everything that makes up PVE content.

So that is an area that feels a bit overlapping

When you have awful games like baldurs gate winning game of the year, you know these awards are meaningless.

So what should have won?

Ah ill explain how i think they are different. I can see how thats confusing lmao but allow me.

When i say pve i mean encounters in pve. When i say zones i meant zone design. When i say characters - lore. I separate that from pve because i consider that world building, stories in the world. rather than content to do. When i say characters over story telling i mean wow has more interesting characters but ff14 knows how to tell a story better than wow does. As in cutscenes and quest text that is easier to digest in ff14 rather than massive walls of quest dialogue that i dont want to read so i rather watch a lore video lol. Combat in ff14 is slow and boring and actually just kinda bad imo. Combat in wow is a lot smoother and the servers allow it to be precise. When i mean combat i dont mean encounters i just mean the feel of the game when playing it.

I hope i made sense oops

Oof… what an attitude.
“My favorite game wasn’t even nominated, so all the other games that were nominated and won are dumb! There!” :rage:

People give FF14’s story and presentation way more than it deserves. While it has some high points, there is a whole lot of low points to go around.

I feel like people memory hole that most of FF14’s MSQ is traveling through barren and empty zones to random spots to make 1-3 mobs spawn out of thin air to kill and move on.

WoW’s writing certainly has issues, but atleast its zones feel packed and vibrant as you move through them.

They both feel about the same when the only thing I care about is getting to the quest objective lol.

When people complain about Bliz not listening to the playerbase, they usually mean Blizzard isn’t listening to them and adding the things they specifically want. They seem to get offended by the thought that Blizzard might disagree with the feedback they are getting and that there is some kind of democracy in game design.

True. The feedback on covenants during alpha/beta was literally just one dude with like 1000 alts.

Covenants were a fantastic feature to a fantastic expansion!

Didn’t the Game Awards boycott Blizzard entirely after all those allegations came out? Entirely warranted, but that would mean that the omission has no bearing on the actual quality of output.

Diablo 4 was nominated in something, forget what though.

Diablo 4 Nominations

  • Best Innovation in Accessibility ( Recognizing software and/or hardware that is pushing the medium forward by adding features, technology and content to help games be played and enjoyed by an even wider audience.)
  • Best Multiplayer Game

I don’t think they are to the creators and artist, and all those involved. Though sometimes it doesn’t seem fair or correct awards serve a purpose and they reward people for striving to be the best at what they do.

Hi, Aks, I had a horribly ruff day yesterday, and migraine, and suddenly RA & fibro, and mushy brain today - anyway, sorry if I was going in circles myself.

I totally understand what you are saying here, and it is true. The issue that I’m wrestling with in my own mind here is to explain in terms that make logical sense how to use objective with anything creative. I mean technically the only objective things in the universe are math and science, and even the latter being called into question.

For any type of artistic endeavour a criteria must be set by an organization with judges - which of course means fallible humans. So this is a no win debate between our ideas. You are correct, but I don’t think so. lol!! There are certain objective truths about these games that doesn’t have to do with whether you or I like them.

phew, that’s all my brain cells can handle for the day. Take care, bud - hubby wants to watch more of the Expanse … I’ve been awake since 3 am - I think that will do me in. :butterfly:

Sameee. The old blizzard would have seen this PO opportunity by now and jumped on it to be more involved with the playerbase

Sure. But considering the judges are some unknown group of media and influencers? I am rejecting that as a way to state something is objectively better.

Specifically when the argument being made is referencing that FFXIV got nominated for best community support.

I dont agree that influencers liking a game or not is an objective truth on the game being objectively better.

As much as I love WoW, I’m not sure that it really deserves any of the awards as of yet. It’s a fun game, but not quite outstanding in any fairly measurable way. And I’d love to be proven wrong on this.

Another way to put it is, what award would we give it? Graphics/Voice Acting/Storywriting are all par at best, and the gameplay itself isn’t particularly innovative. It does have some long-running history as an MMO, but I’m afraid that it’s not the first/oldest, either.
