Game as a way of virtual hanging out?

How many of you are playing mostly because your friends also play, and raid nights and such are a great way to keep in touch with folks you’ve met along the way in game?

Nah they all quit years ago. Now I play LFG Waiting Simulator between being a semi-workaholic! :grimacing:

I play because it’s a fun video game to run around in. Same as I did about 15 years or so ago.

Just like in life, the people come and go.

I do what I like because I like it.

If my friends wanna play, cool! If not… fine!

Most my friends hate WoW, and I can’t stand their crappy depthless FPS’s.

We usually chat online via BNet or Disc, but are in different games more often than not.

This is the only reason TO play.

As a game unto itself, there are many offerings better than WoW. The people are the only reason to play WoW.

used to play because I had people to play the game with… but my guild died off due to personal drama and vanished to the winds and the only person I personally know who plays keeps making excuses not to play the game with me and whenever I catch them online they make excuses for why they gotta leave… so… I’m a lone wolf lately V_V

Those were some of the comfiest times to ever play this game. People wouldn’t really raid for gear alone, to most folks it genuinely was like hanging out with friends but even better cause you can do it from the comfort of your computer and still feel like you guys are doing something.

Me. Since RP is dead for me and my characters, I’ve only been playing for friends.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed DF, but if they all quit tomorrow, so would I.

Socialization is why I play MMOs in general. Whether in raids or in the city. If I didn’t like it I’d play a solo or lobby only game.

I find socialization to be a little difficult, but much more bearable and satisfying in a virtual world than real life, so I use WoW to help out.

All my friends (and brothers) quit long ago.

One brother in Wrath, the one that first got me into the game, my eldest brother.

Another younger brother and several school friends, I played with since Vanilla - TBC, quit in Cata to MoP.

And my last friend, who I played Legion with, decided to try WoW again after BfA & SL.

He bought me DF for my birthday and we enjoyed Season One together. We both PvP and do nothing else- PvE does not interest us in the slightest anymore, because E-sporty nature of it.

Anyway, class balance was terrible, and after we took turns rolling FoTM classes to stomp others, he got bored and quit.

We’re both talking n playing BG3 together rn.

I decided to stick around and check out ZC/Abberus, and then we got Draenei Warlocks which sounded and looked stupid until we got the announcement of the red skin coming as well.

WoW just doesn’t hold my interest anymore, tbh. And I’ve got no friends here to serve as an anchor.

I’ve been waiting for them to do something like Cataclysm, but that day never comes.

They say the WoW development team is bigger than ever these days, but they haven’t done anything as ambitious as the Cataclysm revamp, which also included new zones and two new races.

I’m tired of expansions that occur in bubbles, and I deeply miss the ‘old’ world of Azeroth.

They design more for the short-term than evergreen longterm content.

I’ve been barely playing since I got KSH. Helping my friend attain KSM for the mount (we got it last night!!!) has kept me around for the time being. It’s a very nice bonding activity for us.

I feel you there. Reached the point where I’ve stopped trying irl. I’m just a digital being now.
