Fyi Blizz: no one likes worms

Blizz devs seem inextricably drawn to designing dungeon and raid encounters around giant worrms nearly every expac. These have consistently been the most buggy, least mechanically challenging or engaging, and most reviled encounters in the franchise.

To add insult to injury, they keep rehashing these stupid worm encounters by reviving them in the form of m+ content… all the while never fixing bugs or tuning them for affixes.

Blizzard… just stop. Get some help. Next time you want to put a worm in a dungeon, just put a giant vorpal bunny in instead. Next time you want to put a worm dungeon into the m+ seasonal rotation… Just put stormwind stockades in instead and toss a 5 min timer on it. We’ll love it. Next time you want to use worms as bait fishing… don’t… just use tin foil, shrimp, or mystery meat from wendy’s chili.

I mean I get some tropes that are repeated. Like undead…or demons… or the angry elf dude that perpetually faces…setbacks… or like dragons. Dragons are cool. Go ahead and make those encounters. Worms are not dragons. Just because you asked your 6year old to draw a dragon and he produced a picture of a creature with no limbs, eyes, facial features other than a mouth, wings, or defining features other than a squiggly line and the fact that it drinks applesauce through a straw does not mean worms are as good as dragons. And even if we did want to fight faceless limbless invertebrates… why can’t we fight a giant geoduck? Or a giant sea slug? Or a giant faceless pillsbury dough boy?

Why don’t we like worms?

First: worms are generally rooted to a hole in the ground. No one likes beating up on enemies that can’t move. That’s like boxing against people in wheelchairs. It’s just not sporting. In wow this generally expresses itself in giant but buggy to aoe skills hitboxes.

Second: every worm seems to want to eat you. This is probably a result of the only defining trait of the worm being its mouth. Bit every worm fight degenerates into an “oh look the hungry immobile worm is trying to drag me into its mouth” mechanic. These are generally dumb and have been done to death… and can be done better by other raid encounters where the boss isn’t stuck in a hole. Plus, none of the worms seem particularly interested in destroying the world… they just want to eat what’s in front of them. So why do we even want to kill them anyway? Just walk around the hole they are rooted to.

Lastly: every worm is a filler boss that is irrelevant to the lore, storyline, or theme of the dungeon. Saving the world from evil elementals? Ambushed by random worm living in the mountain! Evil dragon overlord has a castle? He keeps a random worm in a lava pool the size of a bathtub! Trying to save money on your car insurance? Giant worms appear in the commercial for no reason and eat some poor dude’s pet emu. They just have no logical reason to be there other than some sick developer’s fascination with worms.

And while we’re at it… someone tell the devs that spiders don’t explode when they are killed.

Cause blizz in their infinite wisdom made all my hardest hitting single target abilities aoe skills

I despise bosses like the worm in shadow moon because it’s a stop go boss.

Stop go bosses are lazy design and not fun for anyone.

worms are always hard it’s true…cuz they are able to devour your tank whole, which is a huge problem…

i think i’ve always had issues with Goblin/Mecha bosses the most. I’m a seasoned dragon slayer though :muscle:

Just sic one of those red leeches on them. Its fine

Yes, I’m sick of waiting for them.

Is there a new dungeon I don’t know about? What’s with the worm issue all of a sudden? Do we have a ton of dungeons with worms in them right now?

Aren’t you excited? The worms are coming,

Nature is disgusting

There are worms in Aberrus too, 3rd to last boss.

I love it when players are passionate like this and write well thought-out posts about aspects of the game.

I want the giant geoduck encounter! I need the giant geoduck encounter!

My guess is that Blizzard keeps reaching for the worms because they want to save money and time by using recycled assets. They don’t have to consider pathing for the worms either because they are stationary. Too bad all that money and time was spent on designing overly cute mobs to distract players from the awful story and gameplay. Though a giant void duck would be a kinda awesome dungeon mob.
