Future WoW Races, what races should be in game and.. Ethereals?

There are a great many races in the World of Warcraft, some of which have roots in the original titles, Warcraft, 2 & 3. I, probably like many of you, have always wanted Ogres in the Horde, to me it’s where they belong. There are a few others that have roots in the base games that would be remarkably well suited for the Horde or for the Alliance. Perhaps even some that could be seen on either side of the isle given proximity.

Personally, I thought I’d have seen, Ogres, San’Layn, and Mok’nathal on the Horde, and Broken, High Elf, and Arrakoa/centaur for the Alliance a MULTITUDE of years before Ethereals, but I’m curious to hear what you all think on possible new race(s) in the future.

What do you all think would be some races that should be in the game as playable races? Ogres, Arrakoa, San’Layn, Merlocks, Gnolls? What is your fantasy race to have added, which faction would they be added to and why?

Ogre cuz ogre have been part of the horde forever and more have joined since then

Arrakoa cuz some devs absolutely love these things since they actually have way more lore than several playable races

Saurok cuz lizard cool

Mantis cuz bug cool

Honestly, I totally forgot about Saurok for some reason, and Mantis would be awesome as well!!

Ogre and Arrakoa would be great. There’s enough lore established that a story arc making them playable doesn’t seem like a big lift.

WORLD of warcraft, we should be able to play as any race we’ve aided or who’s aided us in said world by now.

We’ve added completely new races with zero history until the expansion they were released in, but still numerous ones left unadded that have not just years of history, but existed prior to WOW itself.

I dont think wow needs more playable races.
They dont use the ones we have enough as it is.
They should put the development time in to giving more customisation to the races we have already.

Also jinyu

I can speak for everyone of course, but personally, I think that if they added particular races that players talk about in these discussions (Not all of the ones that they did) then they would get played. I don’t think I ever saw a post talking about how someone was clamoring to play Earthen amongst others, but I can tell you the odds of people playing Ogres, SL, Centaur, Merlock, and some others would be really good, because those resonate with so many players.

I agree 1,000% I’d LOVE to see some more customization to the existing races as well. I put in suggestion (don’t know if they actually look at them or not lmao) about making some more quest related character customization unlocks, things that would give eye glow, and I also requested that they consider putting in some more class specific character customization stuff. I thought that would be awesome as well!

Jinyu! I totally forgot about them as well! That would be awesome to see players running around as them… fishing… XD

Ethereals would be cool, but only if they add a female option instead of the current two male ones.

The Brokers. Those were the trade people in Shadowlands that had heads like the flame on a candle.

We’ve got like two or three more variety of dwarf to get through before we can seriously consider anything else.

Check back in 2030 or so.

Am I the first to say High Elves? High Elves*

None, no more new races, I think we have more than enough

Back in the day, when factions were more integral to the game design, I always thought it would be cool to have a 3rd faction. Something like the less ‘civilized’ humanoids got sick of us constantly slaughtering them and formed a faction of like Ogres, gnolls, furbolgs, etc.

But nowadays I think factions get in the way more than they enhance the story. We still need ogres though

My #1 is Alliance Gnolls. Followed by Horde Forest Trolls.

Even when the game first launched you saw all these mixed-race factions such as the Southsea Pirates, Venture Mining Company, and the slaves of the Dark Iron Dwarves. They all contained the player races but also, in addition, Goblins, High Elves, Ogres and Gnolls.

Now, of those-- Goblins and High Elves did make it into the game. And we know that the Horde should get Ogres and Forest Trolls since the Stonemaul Ogres and Revantusk Trolls used to be factions even before The Burning Crusade launched.

That leaves the Gnolls as the weird ones out. So many quests that involve them have the other races treating them like animals and “culling” them even though we know that they are intelligent, sentient people who are perfectly capable of working alongside other races-- more so than Quilboar, Kobolds, Harpies, and even Furbolgs. Gnolls were uniquely framed as a race perfectly capable of being a cooperative and productive members of mixed-race factions. And since Goblins and Ogres seemed Horde aligned, it just made sense that High Elves and Gnolls would be future Alliance races.

Instead the Alliance got Werewolves and Demons? Even Pandas and Dragonpeople were added first?

The idea of the Gnolls getting a charismatic leader who is willing to work with the Alliance rather than against them isn’t a wild idea-- a lot of those bad Gnolls are working for humans or goblins anyway. So them getting a leader who realizes that continuing a losing battle makes no sense and they could lead better lives if they work as mercenaries for their oppressors rather than trying fruitlessly to overthrow them.

And it would show that the Alliance has developed in character overtime by trying to uplift them rather than continuing to stomp down on them. Particularly now that troops are becoming ever more scarce.

And it would finally add a proper scrappy underdog race to the Alliance which they have been sorely missing.

The Gnoll models seem to be based on the Worgen model which means a proper dedicated female Gnoll model that uses the skeleton and proportion of the female Worgen would also work just fine. They could then use all of the Worgen armor models. They would work ideally as the sort of “Allied Race” we have had since the idea launched where they reflect a race that already exists-- but in this case it would be something that’s been part of the setting for 25 years instead of something someone came up with only within the latest expansion.

It wouldn’t even have to be all that wild departure. Other than the charismatic leader, the general attitude we see could still be that the other races in the Alliance don’t totally trust or regard the Gnolls very highly aside from your particular character who has a long distinguished record. They could often take on the roles of the hapless, unlucky, or foolish stock soldiers that bad things happen to.

They would also definitely be able to be Shaman which would add another race that can use that class to the Alliance.

Pretty sure they’re never gonna add the electrical bandage people. There would be so much uproar over “why can’t I use my winter veil Santa suit on my ethereal?“ They can’t mog. They can’t mount. I think some of them might carry a weapon. It would be nice if people just woke up and smelt the coffee. This race is never coming to this game.

I know i’m in the small minority recommending it but I would suggest new races that have a new island to explore just so other races don’t overshadow them in preexisting locations. Such as Ogrezonia. :world_map::robot:

I gave up on these ideas forever ago. I also don’t believe Ethereals are going to be playable. I don’t care about some leaked item that lets us run around as one with broken animations that don’t even work properly. Really wish people would think harder.

Ethereals, as they stand, are not rigged to wear armor, they also would look bad in 99% of the game’s possible options, if not nearly all of them. If they add this race, they will function similarly to mechagnomes or dracthyr, why are we letting Blizzard get away with blatant laziness in this regard?

Why are high elves still being mentioned? The alliance got them. We can move on now. Everything else is simply never going to be, Blizzard literally does not care.

Other than Ogres and the two headed ones in particular I can’t think of any other races I would want.

I would love if they added more racial customization. Make a Tauren look like a Taunka, etc.

Ethereals would be really cool and unique, but I’d also worry they’ll get the Dracthyr treatment where they get barber shop armor instead of actual armor.

My top three playable race desires are Ogres, Forest Trolls, and Taunka.
