As a proud void elf, i love the concept of Telogrus Rift. I was super excited to see it for the first time. Since Void Elves are a permanent part of the alliance (hopefully), will we ever get to expand our “capital”?
Other allied races all have places they could call home. Like the Vindicaar and Argus for Lightforged, Blackrock for the Dark Iron, Kul Tiras for Kul Tirans (obviously), Mechagon for Mechagnomes, and so on.
These are all fairly explorable places with engaging content that is relevant to their races, even if they have no use currently. Meanwhile, Void elves are left with 3 poorly designed small chunks of floating rocks, one of which you cant get to without a glider (there’s even a broken hole in one of the islands that let you clip underneith the ground), and 0 quests aside from the single quest you get when you create a new character. There’s just nothing to do!
I know blizzard will probably forget Telogrus even exists and just sweep it under the rug, never to be touched again, but I would love to see more void elf lore slowly blossoming, and maybe even have an expanded zone with things to do that are relevant specifically to the void elf race.
I know it’s stupid, but a place for void elf RP that is actually interesting would be lovely. What do you guys think? Should Void Elves have the spotlight for a little while? even if it’s just a few months?
The main issue is that it’s not really a viable place to live. It’s just some chunks of rock floating in space that magically have gravity and an atmosphere. There’s no food or water that we can see, so it’s probably entirely dependent on a constant stream of supplies from Stormwind via the portal.
All that being said, those sorts of issues have never stopped Blizz in the past, so I think an expanded Telogrus would be a nice idea. Maybe add some updated blood elf buildings that have a void-themed twist to them.
I don’t see how the rift could sustain them long term. It has zero resources for the rendorei to make use of. With the void corruption in Stonetalon mountain, I thought it was a good idea to give that area to the void elves. They could get rid of the void issues and the druids could reshape the area are make it suitable for farming and evergreen create a water supply. It wouldn’t be Quel’Thalas but they could make it their own and there are still some Highborne ruins that could be taken advantage of.
I’d like to see Telogrus built up. Maybe build a city across the floating islands in the Blood Elven aesthetic, but in like black marble, with purple roofs and spires.
As for there not being any resources, Suramar walled itself off for ten millenia with no conventional agriculture, no weather, little lumber, no mining or quarrying that I saw, and no imports, and still thrived.
I can’t see Telogrus getting updated unless it’s used as a capital in a future expansion. Even then I imagine the version only accessible to Void Elves would remain as is.
That said, I’ve seen really neat suggestions before. Something like, making smaller islands out there, places where different manifestations of the void are studied. Something like a lake with the Naga mind squids inside, or an island where we see assets from the assaults on the Vale of Eternal Blossoms and Uldum. It’d be a nice way to show the Void Elves actively studying threats we’ve faced.
Telogrus should keep out every wanna be void elf that just want to look like high elf.
Also, mag’har and vulpera are clearly first in line for a city/place. Vulpera only have caravan that we can’t go in and mag’har lost their only building in shadowland.
I’m not sure that a supply line is important for people that can open portals easily, effortlessly and without cost to anywhere they please.
The Rift is as far or near to supply as the void elves need. The void elves are now basically a special forces arm of The Alliance’s military. Which, I presume, would be happy to meet their commodity needs.
Kind of makes it difficult to train new recruits though. The beautiful thing about Telogrus, is that its not on Azeroth. It’s the safest place imaginable to research, study, and practice using void magic, because there is no threat whatsoever to Azeroth or anyone else on it. Also, I’ve seen people say before that any new Void Elves would be trained the way Alleria was, and that makes sense. The ritual which corrupted Umbric and the elves from Silvermoon might not be easily redone, and even if it could, it seems very reckless and dangerous as well. Umbric talks a lot about the safe and responsible use of the void, and Alleria’s path seems like the safer and more responsible way to learn, in my opinion at least.
The Vulpera are nomads so I’m not sure how they’d get a proper city or settlement. Could always form a ring with their wagons somewhere and call it a camp though. As for the Mag’har, I wouldn’t mind seeing Orgrimmar get updated in the future, and a proper dock connected to the city made using Iron Horde assets.
Not sure how good this place is. But maybe something else could be reused? There were some high elf settlements, maybe a reunion of some sort for void and high elves in the alliance could be a driving power to move forward for both sides?
Alternatively, since highborne are more intergrated in the alliance lately, maybe there could be some movement in that direction.
Reviving some kind of alliance specific magic institution to make it visible in the game could also be a way IMO.
Or make them a driving force if we’ll get some update to Outlands or Northrend.
To me the rift so far seems like a temporary solution rather than something permanent. But all of it are just some random ideas.
Yeah but it wouldn’t be without consequence. If the blood elf got green eye for just being near fel crystal, imagine what being in a void zone while playing with void would make them.
But Alleria is a special case. This was the entire goal of her quest line in argus. It was a feat of strength that nobody else have done. Making any high/blood elf being able to do what she have done would just undermine what Alleria did as hell.
Maybe they could get a giant carave/city being pull by dinosause, ogron or gron ( but i am not sure if the mag’har still have those). Would be awesome to have a big city moving slowly moving around in the barren.
For the mag’har, i think nearly every one have the same idea as you. One of the few good thing that AU mag’har bring, its their building. Its time for Orgrimar to be a true faction capital city and have one last real update that could make Org at Stormwind level.
Probably nothing. In the audio, ‘A Thousand Years of War,’ Alleria was in the void practicing and studying with Locus-Walker. I’d imagine being in the void while using the magic would be a lot more corrupting than being in the Telogrus Rift. She still looks like a High Elf.
No one else succeeded, but Locus-Walker had attempted to teach/train other Ethereals, all of whom had failed. I might be wrong but I believe he comments about how Alleria’s kin seem strangely adept at wielding the void. I don’t think trying to diminish her accomplishment is a great thing, but I also doubt there are enough darkened Naaru out there for everyone to eat. I think the more logical course would be that new Void Elves trained as Alleria was would simply devour the void core of something else when their training has been completed.
This is all just my opinion of course, but it feels like it falls in line more with the goal of safely and responsibly using/studying void magic.
Bashal’aran could be made into a huge nightelf capitol with draenethyst leytowers, voidelf portal networks, worgen barrows with cloaked packhunters patrolling the area.
A voidelf portal network would be invaluable an asset to have anywhere, but Bashal’aran could be made to be part of the core defense of any new home allowed to them by the Kaldorei.
A bigger question would be, is it any better to “eat” rather than purify them? And what was motivation to lead Alleria there so that Velec could not do what he did with the core of M’uru.
Breeding domesticated old gods?
Is it better to keep them isolated for safety? No one could help if they fail. Besides, is trusting an ethereal any better than trusting a dreadlord? But it’s just me trying to understand this story.
Xal’atath (at Locus-Walker): He flaunts his defiance of the shadows. Arrogance will be his undoing.
Xal’atath (after L’ura’s defeat, when Alleria absorbs her power): The caterpillar has become the butterfly. She is all but ours now.
I think the question to ask would be, is it better to eat them or leave them to spread corruption and entropy? For a darkened Naaru to return to the Light has been described as an extraordinarily rare event. I’m also not sure if M’uru’s core was purified by Velen or not. In WoD he was able to bring a darkened Naaru back to Light, but at the cost of his life.
Not pure enough, I imagine. Maybe something like the greater Voidwalkers. Or, who knows? Maybe the Void Elves could find a way to just harness void energy from the rift into a convenient to swallow pill. Chewables available upon request.
Isolated to the Telogrus Rift, where there are plenty of Void Elves around to help them if they fail.
I imagine so. Ethereals seem to be pretty well known across the cosmos as traders, and you don’t maintain that sort of business by being treacherous.
The void see’s all possibilities as truth. Likewise, consider the messenger. Xal’atath has spent ages imprisoned in her dagger. I can’t imagine she wants anyone, let alone the priest PC, thinking that there is a way to study and harness the power of the void without succumbing to it. If anything her comments made me feel more that Locus-Walker and Alleria had both achieved the feat, and she was trying to mislead us. Better that the priest PC continue to rely on Xal’atath.
Locus Walker (A Thousand Years of War): You have known the Shadow as nothing but horrors . The Shadow sees the Light in the same way.
Xal’atath (in Netherlight Temple): I know the naaru consider us horrors to be resisted. We do not share this view. They are merely beloved brethren …
Locus Walker (same source): The Shadow seeks every possible path and sees them all as truth .
Xal’atath: I know the naaru consider us horrors to be resisted. We do not share this view. They are merely beloved brethren that lost the true path . They will return to their masters… in time.
(Twist the Knife): Here we are. Do not be afraid. This was always meant to be .
(The Tempest Crown): It is no mere coincidence that our paths intersect, [name]. You were meant to find me. I was meant to find you .
One of thing attributed to side effects of the void is insanity. Here is the deal.
Nozdormu could see through time, and eventually will become insane.
Xal’atath (at Star Augur Etraeus): Here is one who has caught the merest glimpse of your grim reality. It warped his mind forever.
So, my point is…
Wouldn’t you be insane if you knew whatever you do, whatever your actions are, you can’t stop the inevitable? The end of you? Of your loved ones? Of the cosmos?
What would be a decent example… So, let’s say, there is a sci-fi spaceship and a black hole. After getting too close, spaceship can go in any direction (hence “every possible path and sees them all as truth”).
But for someone on the side, the trajectory would be toward the “center” of a black hole regardless of the picked direction. (“that lost the true path”)
Insanity is not unique to void. It also happens with those who can see through time, which is arcane thing.
So, does she need to mislead us if from her perspective the outcome is inevitable?
Sargeras (In My Father’s House): No matter how hard this world fights, it will fall.
I would say, yes. The void see’s all paths as true. It doesn’t know which will become reality. The Hour of Twilight was supposed to happen as far as the Old Gods knew, but it didn’t, it was averted. N’Zoth did not see himself being defeated, even if he did see himself being freed from his prison.
I am not sure that we avoided it. Nozdormu is nowhere to be seen, and he is the reason for the End Time. Not Neltharion. And us taking Demon Soul happened after End Time dungeon, so, he already altered the timeline and what are the consequences is not known, since we are not in the original anymore.
Was he even defeated? Where is the dagger? Where is Wrathion? Why the void chose us?
Xal’atath (Twist the Knife): Hear me, God of the Deep! I have brought you the Opener… the Bringer of Truths… the Torch That Lights the Way!
I am secretly hoping that Shadowlands gives us some answers. Maybe we’ll get to see the Void after life or at least a portion of it in one of SLs patches.
