Here is an idea for a hunter rune slot
So all of these runes would give basic attack power scaling to hunter abilities (for all abilities that haveno scaling right now), but it would give more to the specified rune
For example, all of these runes would give arcane shot 40% RaP scaling, serpent sting scaling, traps scaling, etc. But would give one specific aspect more scaling.
The idea is to use runes to fix hunter scaling issues, but letting there be a harder focus per playstle choice.
Rune of deadly traps (note, traps wouod be useable in combat from a different rune)
Traps gain double the rap scaling and all other abilities gain some rap scaling
Rune of deadly bites
mongoose bite gains 100% weapon scaling, no longer requires a dodge to use and raptor strike is now instant with 50% lower cd (again, all abilities would be gaining scaling with this, one is just focused more on melee
Rune of deadly shots
Arcane shot no longer shares CD with other abilities and gains double the rap scaling
Rune of deadly venoms
Serpent sting and viper sting gain 100% rap scaling and scorpid sting now also reduces rhe targets armor
Again, everything would be gaining some rap scaling if it had none before regardless of which of these 4 runes you chose, but the one you do chose would help dictate the focus of how you do your damage.

Ok, do you have any suggestions on how you would make them better though or is that it?
I would start with getting it into your head that hunters donât need, and shouldnât be able to, fill every single role.
Its fair to say that SOD is not classic as we all know it and many classes got to get new roles such as mage healers and warlock tank to name a few. These are just speculations as to what a tank hunter could be supported by a few runes to make it viable. All in all Aspect of the monkey is never really used outside of very very niche content and i wanted to put some utility into the spell.
On another note, if we take a quick look at the current tank roster and how they mitigate dmg, we have
- warrior: block with shield
- paladin: block with shield
- shaman: block with shield
- warlock: Increased armor/dmg reduction + utility with pet
- Druid: similar to warlock with dmg reduction.
- rogue: Parry
Now only remaining the dodge mechanic fitting perfectly with aspect of the monkey. There are even some talents in the talent trees that juste make sense on a tank perspective such as improved aspect of the monkey in the BM tree and also Survivalist in Survival tree for bigger health pool. Deterrence in survival tree is a straight up defensive CD.
Many people asked the ââRexxarââ fantasy dual weilding axes in melee along with the pet and i feel that this type of in the fray agile brawler fits the bill.

Heart of the Beast - You now play as your beast - dealing 15% extra damage and command your Hunter as a Pet.

Iâd love to see 2 runes added next phase for hunters:
Helm rune - âDodge Thisâ rune - removes the âdeadzoneâ. Hunters deadzone removed with this rune equipâd.
Belt rune - âViper pitâ rune - adds 25 agi for 30 seconds when a mongoose bite is used and drops a viper trap (yes even in combat).
i like the viper trap idea, applying multiple poison on the target⊠and the remove deadzone is neat too but might be too OP in pvp idk, having 100% uptime on ranged abilities seems too good. For instance mages tactic against us is to feeze us and cast in that deadzone to avoid retaliation.
tldr Hunters need to be nerfed next phase tbh
I say buff underperforming classes instead of nerfing. In classic late game, hunter is middle of the pack in dps⊠some balancing may be recquired and many spec will now be able to come online due to lvl 40 capstone talent. This in itself will change the meta alot.
i think people that cry nerf hunter are the ones playing on pvp realms.
Anyone with half a brain tha plays on pve realms wouldnt want hunters nerfâd.
Completely agree, why nerf in a game, just buff everyone up to a level of whatever the class is performing best. As a hunter, I wish my dps could be buffed to a warriors damage. That will sick at level 60

Before worrying about future runes, letâs get a leg rune that doesnât completely suck.
i feel that leg runes are fine fr. Some uninspired but fine. The only thing i would add maybe is a rune that buffs serpent sting to make the serpent spread rune more viable in ranged aoe content.
My issue is more with lone wolf rune. Ive yet to see a hunter play with it because the other options are too good to pass or even mandatory in grp content.
Lone wolf could be the only option and it would still be a dps loss to use it.
Which leg rune is fine?
Sniper Training makes you stand still for 6 seconds - something a good Hunter will basically never do. It also doesnât apply to Auto Shot, which is like 80% of our DPS. Useless.
Kill Command has an insane 1 minute cooldown and only works with bite / claw. Overall it gives a boost of 3-4 DPS. Horrible rune.
Flanking Strike is on a 30 second cooldown with a near non-existent reset mechanic. Mildly useful in PvP, but not really.
Compared to the impactful runes that other classes get, all of our options are F tier.
