What do you find fun about raiding as a fury warrior? I’m trying to decided between mage and warrior for 8.3. I just want to hear people’s experience raiding with a fury warrior and why they find it fun.

I probably enjoy the fast pace and gcd locked nature of the spec more than anything. Always having a button to press just feels great, especially when our gcd is so low on top of that. Some people hate that, this forum is filled with people griping about wrist issues, but I love it.
Self-healing is very nice and can make things alot more relaxing. We may not have a lot of crazy defensives, but the passive heals that come in tend to keep you topped off unless there’s particularly heavy damage going out, which is relaxing.
I enjoy the get up and go style immensely. There’s not a lot of ramp up, opener isn’t very elaborate, and you can pretty much always do good damage, even if burst isn’t the best. AoE may not be stellar on 2 targets or very high target counts, but its some of the best in the business otherwise, and its unlimited.
Warrior’s claim to being the most mobile class may no longer be true, but I still love the way we can stick to or transition targets so well.
And finally it just feels so visceral. Everything you do is getting right up in there and hitting your enemy with big weapons. It’s a blast.
Good luck making your decision.
Thank you for writing this. It’s exactly what I’m looking for.
I started this guy at level 20 on Thursday last week. I had no intentions of powering through to 120 and grinding mythic dungeons but I did and took him through Heroic Eternal Palace on Sunday.
Compared to some other melee dps I’ve played the Fury warrior animations are glorious. I usually like flashy battle mage classes like enhance with the badass looking crash lightning but seeing two giant swords slicing through the air at rapid speed rivals any spell animation I’ve personally cast.
Even for someone who has used flying serpent kick followed by double chi torpedo, heroic leap into charge is just so much more epic. The force at which the warrior travels and charges into battle is incredibly satisfying.
As for actual gameplay, their kit handles any situation admirably. Single target, two, or many… The whirlwind weaving playstyle without having to tab target is very easy and enjoyable while being above average across the spectrum of all dps classes.
You aren’t reliant on a 3-10 minute cd to do great damage, and you don’t have to wait long to ramp into your damage either. Your recklessness is a nice little boost on a short cd you can feel comfortable using as often as you can while your rage bar is constantly refilling itself using the GCD locked filler abilities.
In open world content, with a little gear you feel like a god with all the self heals really rewarding anyone who plays solo.
Overall, blizzard did a fantastic job with the fury rework and I recommend it to anyone who wants to give melee dps a go.
Its very fast paced. Can do the big dam. Heroic leaps for sick hero plays. Charging arond mashing your buttons.
People have covered most of the points here, but I enjoy being useful in situations where on other charecters I couldn’t be.
I played lock for the first 2 tiers for bfa. Switching to warrior has made keys much more enjoyable, I’m part of the raid CD rotation rather than being on brez duty and coming from lock the mobility is crazy, and more reliable than blink. I’m about to have to switch to mage for 8.3 and it definitely feels clunkier than fury.
Noooooooo!
Don’t go!
Also, don’t consider this an endorsement of switching, but what’s your mage’s name? Mcblinksy?
Troggdor, as I am a true man of culture. I’m going to keep the warrior up with it next patch in the hope that maybe the recruitment gods will shower us with rdps, but that hasn’t been the case so far.
i main both fury and fire as it is now and have no problem staying around the top dps. only problem is mage can feel slow when the crits dont come for like 4 secs .
I have the absolute worst luck with benthic, well over 500 pearls invested into tokens for the mage from my warr and warlock plus what the mage gets and nothing with a socket thats usable yet. If i haven’t mentioned how much i hate this patch, i hate this patch.
Fury Warrior Pros:
It’s not boring. You’re not spamming a basic builder half your GCDs. Instead you’ve got a well interconnected set of short cooldowns and procs that has you dancing between buttons before delivering your big spender.
It’s not cooldown dependent. A lot of specs in BfA are built to have huge performance spikes when they use their big cooldowns. But that means your performance otherwise is lackluster and if mechanics or RNG target you while your cooldown is running then it’s an equally huge loss. Fury has only the one cooldown and it’s not a spec defining one.
It doesn’t have glaring weaknesses. You’re fairly mobile and durable. You’ve got good cleave and strong AoE up to 5 targets. You’ve got some utility in your kit like a talent stun and an AoE snare.
Now, that’s a list of things it’s not. I’m not offering up a claim like Legion Afflic Warlocks had of “Good single target, but when you can cleave-DoT and have adds to kill you are a GOD”. Maybe that’s because I settled on Fury Warrior as my main after two character switches in BfA, so for me it’s a Little Bear situation. Warlock was too complex, and Havoc DH was too boring, but Fury is just right.
But I think that really is the selling point of Fury. It does everything competently or better, it doesn’t have any glaring flaws or weaknesses, it’s just a solid fun spec that will perform well in skilled hands. Compare that to the Mage alt I’ve been leveling the last two weeks. Arcane really is almost all about spamming one button, and Frost is more fun but dang do you need to have sharp reflexes and no lag to hit all those shatter combo windows.
I have always played warriors from the start, and though I’ve enjoyed Arms much more over the long haul…this expansion is strongly favorable to fury. The pace is very fast, perfect for my ADD mind. There’s always a button to hit, you’re mobile, you can self heal for ridiculous amounts, really helping to stay alive in M+ runs. AOE dmg is off the charts and pretty sustainable if you have the right Azerite and rotations going. I really enjoy the state of fury right now. Also very strong in PVP, burst can be HUGE.
When i first switch to fury i hated the fast paced, gcd locked play style but now i have come to hate every other class thats slower. I constantly screw up my rotation on my hunter because i’m trying to hit buttons too much.
*pandaran voice “slow down”
On a more serious note Fury warriors offer a lot of beefiness and self sustain compared to a lot of classes which helps keep your healers from getting stressed. Albeit a little.
