Fury Warrior's No Fun

Normally I don’t like to make posts like this, but I’m feeling frustrated with the state of Fury Warrior post-Shadowlands launch, and I honestly can’t come up with a better, more succinct subject line then what I’ve posted. Following the changes to Fury Warrior going into Shadowlands, Fury’s simply no fun any more.

To summarize, going into Shadowlands Fury lost it’s iconic feel—it’s fast-pace whirlwind tempo that made the spec unique among all other melee characters. This occurred because originally, being enraged gave Fury a +25% buff to the character’s Haste, and going into Shadowlands that number was reduced to +15%. This has had numerous negative side effects on Fury affecting the spec, the most notable being that the flat damage buffs given to the spec to offset the don’t account for what losing 10% passive Haste actually does to the playstyle. Abilities like Bloodthirst and Raging Blow come off cooldown slightly slower now, and rage generation was affected thanks to auto-attacks hitting slower. This leaves situations where Fury doesn’t always have a button to press outside of Whirlwind, which feels frustrating when what drew me to the spec was its fast-paced gameplay.

Ultimately, Fury feels unfinished. Like the developers wanted to change the spec to make it more approachable for people who didn’t like it’s original +25% haste-enabled gameplay, and then the realities of conduits and borrowed power forced those systems to take priority over the planned fury rework, so we just got a 10% damage buff as if that would fix our spec’s problems. This wouldn’t bother me so much were it not for the fact that the development team has a history of not addressing the problems with specs until the time between expansions. But if the development team is going to spend all that time designing new ways to do covenants, soulbinds, conduits, and legendaries and call THAT class design, does that simply mean that problems with the core functionality of the classes / specs are never going to be addressed?

Seriously, Blizz, don’t make us wait 2 years to enjoy Fury the way we enjoyed it throughout Battle for Azeroth and Legion.

melee in general doesn’t feel so hot this expansion

I disagree with your assessment of fury being no fun, the spec itself is still the same engaging loop of build to spend, the initial complaint for a lot of people (not myself) was that fury was too fast, 25% haste is a lot to give to free, given that it is also multiplicative with haste that you have on your gear meaning it’s providing higher haste the more haste rating you have. The spec itself is one of the most well put together in the game.

A lot of % stat gains were reduced with the introduction of Shadowlands in cohesion with diminishing returns for stats to avoid stacking stats too high and too early.

I’d guarantee you that your complaint about fury being too slow would vanish once they receive an additional aura buff for the mythic raid week tuning pass, and when you get more gear centralising on haste as a stat, especially on the neck and ring slots. So campaign for a flat aura buff instead of spouting nonsense.

It’s still fun for me but we could use a slight buff.

After running my hunter and my Pally through, i am reluctant to bring my Fury Warrior up. Just doing the cloak quest in bfa was a chore of deaths with insignificant self healing and how hard (and hardy) mobs were starting with Najatar

the sound it makes when you cleave condemn to 4 targets is really satisfying though. there’s that.

That may explain why my warrior feels a bit out of whack… that really sucks.

I had fun on my orc fury warrior, leveled from 24 or so to level 30 tonight pvping and questing in outland.
didn’t feel too horribly underpowered but that’s just leveling so your mileage all varies I suppose.

I think Fury feels fantastic.

I have two warriors, as of now in Shadowlands with one already being lvl 60, and another in the process. I have also mained warrior for a decade. I’ll admit that rolling fury again didnt appeal much, it is bland at times compared to some more flashy melee classes and specs. It is also not my personal go to spec for arena.

Kyrian Vial, and general arms survivability has me going arms on my human, and maining it for pvp. While my tauren continues fury and raids unchanged.

I’ll see how long I play which spec, but early feeling is that arms is fun. I havent genuinely said that in a few years. Could be fatigue with fury, my absence from arms or alot of things. Gonna see what happens though!

Not sure what you’re talking about OP.
Fury war is in a really good spot.

I’m biased as I’ve been maining fury since MoP (except when glad stance was a thing RIP), but I still have a blast with this spec. Has just always felt good to me, even in BFA when I thought most every other spec felt terrible.

I dont know if its just cause i have crappy gear, check my profile to confirm for me gear gods, but i have been really spamming consumables just to keep my health up, usually potting around the 50% mark, and every engagement it seems i get half my health taken away from me.

The Expac was complete crap, but fury warrior was amazing during it all, especially with the healing we got from hot fire cold or whatever that amazing healing azerite trait was.

This seems common and not strictly a fury war problem. Alot of people are hit by the brick wall at 60, some while leveling if they werent geared to the teeth at 50.

My surv hunter had a breeze of a time leveling up (with and w.o a pet. They can kite so good), where as my warrior had to use consumables and reduce mob counts, even more so at 60.

Warrior is just one of those classes easily hit by a lack of gear.

I think it’s the scaling. Because I didn’t start to feel the difference until around level 57 or 58. Then I couldn’t out dps the tank. It felt bad. Slowly getting some better gear and it’s going a bit better. But we could use a slight push.

Not sure why Fury was really nerfed anyway. It was mid pack last expac even with corruptions. It’s respectable.

Not really true anymore. We are about as impacted by that as other classes. It’s just that we got a few nerfs right before Shadowlands.

I’ve only managed to play a handful of my classes thus far, between live and beta. The difference for warrior is proably the nerfs, I do agree there I had eluded to that early in the post by suggesting it’s not just a warrior problem.

So far my warrior does feel like my weakest link though. Nerfs aside, it has put my choice for raiding into question. My guild will take me on the warrior or any other.

Though a gear problem is easier to fix than being straight up nerfed, bit of an oof.

Idk wtf you’re talking about fury feels great. It’s 900x better than bfa’s brainless and boring cringe design of fury warrior.

The rumor is that a ton of people complained about fury warrior’s speed last expansion; said it “hurt their hands” to button mash that hard. So Blizzard cut our haste from enrage by 10% and gave us a 10% damage buff to compensate.

Problem is, that doesn’t compensate. Our global cooldowns come off-cooldown slower, we attack slower so we generate rage slower, and because of both of those problems we don’t have anywhere close to 100% uptime on enrage anymore, which means we lose all that damage from our mastery fairly frequently.
